Four injured in Las Vegas supermarket collapse; cause unknown


A supermarket in Las Vegas, Nevada collapsed on Friday, injuring four people and a dozen people fled through the back door.

After La Bonita Supermarkets on 2500 E. Desert Inn Road opened on Friday morning, the overhang fell for about 20 minutes.Clark County Fire Brigade Captain Steve Broadwell told the news media that none of the victims suffered life-threatening injuries, including Fox5 Las Vegas.

After the incident, Armando Martinez, general manager of La Bonita supermarket Said in a statement The store will remain closed until further notice.

“At this time, we do not know the cause of the incident and are cooperating with the relevant authorities responsible for the investigation,” Martinez said.

A supplier named Michael Martial told Las Vegas Review The three people injured in the collapse of the supermarket appear to be homeless. Martial said that although two of them were able to leave the scene, one of them was hit on the back of the head and “bleeded”.

Broadwell said one of the injured must be rescued from the rubble by firefighters.

According to the chief of the Clark County Fire Brigade, if the accident happened later in the day, the situation could be worse. It is understood that there were very few people on the scene at the time of the incident.I called them at 6:18 in the morning

There is no mention of the exact number of people in the supermarket. But Adolfo Navarrete, the deli director of the store, told The Review Magazine that a dozen employees were able to safely evacuate the store through the back door.

“I only saw the windows shattered like an earthquake,” he said. “I looked back and saw a pile of debris and dust.”

Rescuers ensured that there were no gas or electricity problems after the collapse. They also conducted a second search before announcing that everything was normal.

At the time of writing, the cause of the collapse has not yet been reported. The county building inspector is investigating the matter.

However, Broadwell pointed out that the supermarket is an old building. The strip mall has been in business since 1979.

The incident did not cause damage to nearby businesses.

After the bankruptcy, La Bonita’s general manager stated that all employees were given paid leave. If needed, they also provide medical or emotional support services. While the Las Vegas store is closing, some employees will be moved to other locations.

State Department of Industry and Commerce spokesperson Terry Williams said that the Nevada Occupational Safety and Health Administration will conduct an investigation to determine whether any violations of health and safety standards or regulations have caused the collapse.
