At least two of the 11 women accused Andrew Cuomo Sexual misconduct is criticizing the Democratic-controlled New York State Assembly for suspending the impeachment investigation of the governor.
Former Como staff member Charlotte Bennett said on Sunday that the Speaker of the House of Representatives Karl Hesty is using legal techniques to end any ongoing investigations into the incumbency of the former governor.
In a statement posted on social media, Bennett wrote: “Carl Hess proposed that the governor unilaterally decide to end the impeachment investigation against the governor, sending a very clear message to New Yorkers: The New York State Assembly considers corruption and sexual harassment/ Sexual assault and retaliation are acceptable.” Sunday.
“[The accusers] Taking a huge risk to speak out about the abuse and harassment we experienced, then an independent investigation by AG confirmed our allegations and determined that the governor violated state and federal laws. Despite this, the speaker still cannot muster enough courage to simply complete his work…Using lazy legal arguments and providing memos with insufficient reasons, the speaker has taken the cowardly way out,” she continued.
Cuomo denied all allegations of sexual misconduct against him, including Bennett’s claim that he Spied on her own past As a survivor of sexual assault. He allegedly told Bennett that he “want to be moved” and that her survival story “resonated with him.”
According to reports, Cuomo’s resignation will take effect on August 24. According to reports, he did not receive “consent” from members of Congress before making the decision to suspend the impeachment investigation.
Heastie issued a statement on Friday to defend the decision, emphasizing that the Parliamentary Judiciary Committee failed to find any “credible evidence” of the governor’s misconduct. Heastie’s remarks also address Cuomo’s lingering accusations of COVID-19 deaths in nursing homes and improper use of public funds during the peak of the pandemic for his multi-million dollar book transaction.
“There are two reasons for this decision. First, the purpose of the parliamentary Judiciary Committee’s impeachment investigation is to determine whether Governor Cuomo should continue to serve. The Governor’s resignation responded to the directive. Secondly, Chairman LaVine has made recommendations to us-with lawyers. Assistance-I believe the constitution does not authorize the legislature to impeach and remove elected officials who are no longer in office,” Hesty said in a statement.
The parliament’s decision to cancel the impeachment investigation is an unfair evasion. The public should know the extent of the Governor’s misconduct and possible crimes. His victim deserves justice and knows that he will not be able to harm others.
