Watch | UN Secretary-General says the world must unite to combat Afghanistan’s “global terrorist threat”

After the Taliban took control of this war-torn country, United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres called on the world to work together on Monday to “suppress the global terrorist threat in Afghanistan.”

Guterres said at the UN Security Council’s emergency meeting on Afghanistan: “The international community must unite to ensure that Afghanistan is no longer used as a platform or safe haven for terrorist organizations.”

After Taliban militants entered the capital Kabul on Sunday, causing Afghan President Ashraf Ghani to flee abroad, the meeting was hurriedly held at the United Nations headquarters in New York.
