A striking picture shows hundreds of people squeezed into a U.S. Air Force cargo plane as they fled Afghanistan after the Taliban took over.

A defense official told National Defense One that the plane did not intend to carry so many people, but some Afghans who were allowed to evacuate pulled themselves onto the ramp while the ramp was still half open, and the crew decided to take off.

“It is believed that this is one of the largest number of C-17s in history. This is a large military cargo aircraft operated by the United States and its allies for nearly three years,” National Defense One reported.

According to reports, the plane flew from Kabul to Qatar.
