Universities provide a springboard for careers, but future students are sometimes delayed by the high prices of certain institutions.
Although the tuition fees of many elite institutions have skyrocketed, the tuition fees of some universities are much cheaper.
College Raptor’s data analysis highlights the most affordable private universities in the United States based on the average net price in 2020, which is calculated by subtracting bursaries and scholarship assistance from the total attendance cost.
Bill Staib, CEO of University Comparison, told Weekly newspaper Most people pay “less than half” of the tuition, but emphasize the importance of doing cost homework.
“However, the actual cost of each student may vary based on their academic qualifications and family financial status.
“This is why it is important for families to compare the fees of private universities before applying.”
Methodology
This analysis is based on the IPEDS data center of the U.S. Department of Education as of the most recent reporting year (2019-2020).
Researchers used the average net price of full-time, first-time degree/certificate undergraduates who paid tuition in the state or region, and these undergraduates received grants or scholarships from federal, state, or local governments or agencies. Does not include other sources of grant assistance.
The average net price is calculated by subtracting the average amount of federal, state or local government or agency grants and scholarship assistance from the total cost of attendance. The total cost of attendance is determined by the published tuition and required fees, books and supplies, and the weighted average Board and lodging plus other expenses.
This applies to private for-profit and private non-profit institutions that offer at least a bachelor’s degree, but does not meet the Carnegie classification that represents a professional school.
