The United Kingdom accidentally evacuated a person on its no-fly list from Afghanistan, but later stated that it believed the person was safe enough to enter the country.
Government officials confirmed that the unnamed person had flown from Kabul to Birmingham, England, where they were marked as part of a no-fly list. BBC report.
According to a report by the BBC, the person was subsequently investigated, and officials believed that they were not interested and allowed them to enter the country.
British Defense Minister Ben Wallace told Sky News on Tuesday that the presence of this person on the list does not mean they pose a threat.
“We generally call it a no-fly list. But it has many subdivisions. It may be this person-this is a guess of this particular individual-but it may also be’No flying until they are checked.'” It may be in They have many different conditions before they fly,” he said.
“Not necessarily,’You are dangerous, you can’t come by plane.’ It might be, check who they are flying with before they get on the plane.”
Since the Taliban took over Afghanistan on August 15, tens of thousands of people-including foreigners and Afghans who helped Western troops but now fear retribution by the Taliban-have been evacuated from Afghanistan.
According to the British Broadcasting Corporation, the British Ministry of Defence said that since August 13, 7,109 people have been evacuated from Afghanistan on British flights.
