Israeli fire kills Palestinian teenagers in West Bank conflict

On Tuesday, a 15-year-old Palestinian was shot and killed by Israel in the occupied West Bank when Israeli troops stormed into a refugee camp near Nablus to look for suspects and clashes broke out.

According to the Palestinian Ministry of Health, Imad Khalid Saleh Hashas died after being shot in the head in the Balata refugee camp.

The Israeli army stated that they conducted overnight operations in the camp to arrest “a suspect”.

It said in a statement: “During the mission, someone fired live ammunition at the troops from the roof. The troops opened fire at the source of fire.”

According to the military, riots broke out and residents threw stones and other objects at Israeli soldiers from the roof.

“During the riots, some soldiers found a suspect on the roof with a large object in his hand and tried to throw it at the (Israeli) soldier standing under the building.

The statement added: “One of the soldiers responded with live ammunition and determined the hit rate,” but did not directly comment on the teenager’s death.

Deadly unrest is common in the West Bank, the Palestinian territories occupied by Israel since 1967.

Earlier this month, four Palestinians were killed in clashes with Israeli security forces in the turbulent Jenin refugee camp.
