PT Lundin launches alternative stealth trimaran for TNI-AL


The Indonesian shipyard PT Lundin launched a new type of fast trimaran for the Indonesian Navy (TNI-AL) and the future KRI Golok (688) at a ceremony held at its factory in Banyuwangi, East Java on August 21. Missile attack boat.

KRI Klewang (625), a first-class ship of this type, was destroyed by a fire on board the company during maintenance on September 29, 2012, and it was only one month before it was launched. Although PT Lundin subsequently announced that Klewang’s electrical system had a short circuit, the investigation report was never made public.

Like Klewang, Golok is derived from PT Lundin’s 63-meter-long X3K wave-piercing trimaran design, which can accommodate up to 30 people and has a displacement of 245 tons.

Golok inherited the overall design of the original ship. The hull and superstructure are composed of carbon fiber foam interlayer and vinyl ester resin. According to company officials, the hull material is now less susceptible to fire damage due to the infusion of flame retardants during the manufacturing process.

The original design also required the installation of a retractable main gun in the stealth cupola, which can accommodate four Saab RBS15 Mk3 surface-to-surface missiles.

“This ship is made of composite materials, which is lighter and stronger, can better resist corrosion, and is less likely to be spotted by the enemy,” TNI-AL Admiral Yudo Margono said during the launch ceremony of the ship.

“It will also be equipped with missiles, and the ship can be deployed for hit-and-run operations,” Admiral Yudo added.

TNI-AL initially planned to operate four such vessels and intends to purchase more vessels based on anticipated demand.

As part of a consortium led by the state-owned defense company PT Pindad, PT Lundin also built an 18 m catamaran prototype ship called Tank Boat.

The ship is equipped with the Cockerill 3030 long-range weapon system and Mk44 30mm automatic cannon. It can carry up to 60 personnel and is designed to meet potential army and naval needs.
