Red, white, blue and…green? Americans may use marijuana to celebrate Labor Day.
Cannabis sales are expected to surge over the Labor Day weekend, which will cause the plant to have the second highest sales volume in 2021.
According to a report Akerna, a cannabis technology company, predicts that national legal cannabis sales will reach $240 million over the holiday weekend. Akerna pointed out that sales will start on Friday, with sales of approximately US$90 million, an increase of 62% over Friday’s average. Saturday is expected to bring in sales of 69 million US dollars, while Sunday is expected to reach 39 million US dollars.
“When the holiday falls on the weekend, there will be the biggest spending peak on the Friday of that weekend, Valentine’s Day, Memorial Day and July 4th This year,” James Ahrendt, Business Intelligence Architect at Akerna, said in the report.
Friday is set as the biggest sales day of the weekend, but the special thing about this weekend is that Labor Day will provide an extra day for the cannabis market to increase sales. It is estimated that Labor Day will also bring about 42 million U.S. dollars in income.
If Friday’s sales do reach $90 million, this will be the second highest sales day in 2021, just after 4/20.

Cannabis has been more publicly accepted as a way to celebrate holidays, and can even be seen as an economic booster because of the high volume of expressive sales accumulated these days.
