On November 6, 2021, LGBQIA+ revellers participated in the 30th Pride Parade in Buenos Aires, Argentina.
On Saturday, thousands of people held hours of music and parades in downtown Buenos Aires to celebrate the progress made by LGBTQ and women’s rights groups in Argentina.
The atmosphere of the demonstration was festive, but the head of the National Anti-Discrimination Office, Onera Infant, told reporters: “We celebrate the victory, but we also ask Congress to deal with the transgender rights and anti-discrimination bills that have been proposed.
The square in front of the Congress and the historic May Square were crowded with activists participating in the 30th Pride Parade.
People danced in the street, musicians performed, and people dressed in fine costumes held a float parade to celebrate various identities.
Mary Robles, 60, the head of the Argentine Transgender and Transgender Transvestite Association (ATTTA), told AFP:
We demand the law as historical compensation. We have persecuted elderly women. They cannot study or get medical care.
Another ATTTA leader Marcela Romero (Marcela Romero) said: “They have experienced 30 years of struggle and resistance, and have achieved achievements such as the Equal Marriage Law and the Gender Identity Law.”
People in the parade also held signs that read “Missing Teruel”, referring to the 22-year-old transgender man Tehuel de la Torre, who disappeared when he left home for a job interview in March.
The marchers asked for more information about his whereabouts.
Argentine President Alberto Fernandez also participated in the parade. He wrote on Twitter: “The LGBTI+ flag is flying across the country and is worth celebrating. We are committed to continuing to work for a more just, free and equal society. collective.”
His government also set up a truck from the Ministry of Health to distribute Covid-19 vaccine to the marchers. Argentina has recorded 5.2 million coronavirus cases and more than 116,000 deaths.
Among its 45 million people, 35 million have received at least one vaccine, and 26 million have been fully vaccinated.
