- The UK has launched an investigation into an allegation of sexual assault on a corpse by a hospital worker in the 1980s.

The UK announced on Monday an independent investigation into how a hospital electrician who admitted to the murder of two women in 1987 sexually assaulted dozens of bodies in the morgue.
Prosecutors said David Fuller admitted that in two attacks months apart, 25-year-old Wendy Kernell and 20-year-old Caroline Pierce had two attacks in Kent, southeast England.
In court proceedings last week, it was revealed that the 67-year-old Fuller continued to desecrate the bodies of at least 99 women and girls in the hospital morgue, where he worked as an electrician.
Health Minister Sajid Javid told members of Congress on Monday that he is replacing the local Health Trust investigation with a national independent investigation, calling the crimes “shocking and depraved”.
He said: “This will help us understand how these crimes have occurred undetected in the past, identify any areas where the trust requires early action, and then consider broader national issues, including the NHS.”
“For everyone affected by these shocking crimes, we have a responsibility to do the right thing for those we have lost and those who are still in shock and grief.”

Jonathan Michael, an experienced chief executive officer of the National Health Service (NHS) and a researcher at the Royal College of Physicians, will lead the investigation.
Between 2008 and 2020, Fuller’s victims included three children under 18 and other children over 85.
The police who searched his home last year found that he had filmed his own attack in two morgues, where he had been engaged in electrical maintenance since 1989.
The police discovered his crime after Fuller was arrested for the murder following a DNA breakthrough in 1987.
According to the Crown Prosecutor’s Office, which filed a lawsuit in England and Wales, before the twin homicide trial, Fuller pleaded guilty to 51 other crimes, including 44 allegations related to 78 identified mortuary victims.
So far, investigators have found 99 potential victims, and they know the names of 78 of them.
These crimes include sexually assaulting the dead body, possessing extremely pornographic images involving sexual interference with the dead body, and taking indecent images of children.
The evidence found dates back to 2008-when digital camera equipment was becoming more common-but the police believe that the true scale of his crime may never be known.
CPS senior prosecutor Libby Clark said his crime of necrophilia was unprecedented.
“I have never encountered such a thing-the number of people, the nature of the crime-I don’t know anyone, whether it is the police or other prosecutors,” she said.
