Divert biodegradable waste from landfills to reduce methane emissions that contribute to climate warming
Landfills are one of the biggest drivers of methane pollution in the United States and the world, but it doesn’t have to be.If we invest in infrastructure to transfer all food And other organic waste from landfills, we can completely reduce methane emissions from landfills.
I am one of them 35 scientistsIncluding four people from Colombia, they called on US climate leaders to promote a policy aimed at diverting nearly 300 tons of organic waste from the United States to landfills each year.As the UN climate negotiations began last week, the United States and the European Union are leading a Global Methane Commitment Encourage countries to reduce emissions by at least 30% by 2030. As long as the United States changes the way we deal with biodegradable waste, it can well achieve the 30% target.
