Gaza City, Palestinian Territory-Hamas, the Islamic movement that rules the Gaza Strip, said on Tuesday that it had sentenced three people to death, two of them for cooperating with rival Israel.
The Hamas Military Tribunal stated that the recent ruling “includes three death sentences, two of which are against the occupier’s collaborators and the third is against drug dealers.”
The court also ruled on 11 other cases involving the same allegations. With the exception of one suspect’s drug trafficking charges being dropped, all were sentenced to four years to life imprisonment.
Earlier, Hamas announced in late October that it had sentenced six Palestinian “informants” to death for cooperating with Israel.
The Al Mezan Human Rights Center in Gaza called for a moratorium on the death penalty in the enclave, stating that it “expressed serious concern about the continued execution of death sentences by military judicial institutions.”
Hamas said on Tuesday that it has “fulfilled all legal procedures” and has given criminals all rights.
Palestinian law requires Palestinian Authority Chairman Mahmoud Abbas to approve the death penalty, but Hamas in Gaza has executed many executions without his permission.
