Search Advocate John Mueller suggests that building authority through Google is more than just publishing a 30-page website.
This is especially true if the site has stopped publishing new content for a period of time.
Mueller said this was in response to a post on Reddit asking why new articles on “authoritative” sites were not indexed.
The original poster (OP) of the thread said that they had published more than 30 articles on their website and considered it to be authoritative because it received the link.
After a three-month break between the publication of new articles, Google did not index new content as quickly as it used to.

The OP asked why some URLs were not indexed even after manual submission.
Mueller’s response to OP was a rude awakening, saying that it is difficult for Google to regard their website as an authority with only a few dozen articles.
Google’s John Mueller on the authoritative website
Mueller started his response by clarifying that there are no problems with Google’s indexing system.
Index errors do occur from time to time, but in this case it is not a problem.
Rather, this is a case of Google’s selectivity in its indexed content.
Due to the relatively small number of articles on the site, and it has not published new content for several months, when the site starts publishing again, Google will be more critical of its indexed content.

“At the moment, I don’t think there is any problem with the way Google indexes content. I do see that we are critical of the content we choose for indexing, just like any search engine.
It is really hard to call a website authoritative after 30 articles, especially if you have stopped publishing for a while, I can see that Google may be more conservative in indexing more. “
When Google finds that the site provides searchers with more than 30 pages of content, the index may increase over time.
Apart from continuing to release new content, OP cannot do anything to speed up the process.
“Over time, we see that your site is not just “30 good posts”, but content that we are passionate about sending to as many users as possible, and then the index will go up.
But this is not something you can promote through technical means, and it is not about pressing a button before indexing to make your website the best of its kind. “
Mueller ended his response by encouraging OP to raise goals in all areas.
Nowadays, it is not enough to make a website as good as other websites on the web. It must be significantly better.

“Make your website “as good/bad as other websites” is not compelling-you should really aim higher, not just about the text on your page, but about everything on your website Stuff, and its embedded in the rest of the world/network.”
There are two key points in this exchange.
One is that a website is unlikely to be regarded as an authority with only 30 pages.
The second is that Google may slow down the indexing of the website after it understands the location of the website and the rest of the network.
It is normal for Google’s index mode to fluctuate, and even manual submission does not guarantee that the page will be indexed.
