Governor Ashraf Attia said that heavy rain, hail and thunder in Aswan province over the weekend forced local authorities to suspend classes on Sunday.
Attia added that the storm forced the scorpions from their hiding place into many houses in the province. He said that at least 503 people were hospitalized after suffering a scorpion sting, and all were discharged after being given an anti-venom dose.

Acting Minister of Health Khalid Abdel-Ghafar said in a statement that no deaths from scorpion stings have been reported.

The Al-Ahram daily quoted Aswan’s Deputy Minister of Health Ehab Hanafy to report the death toll. It did not specify the reason.
Rain also caused power outages.
