Cold open
The NBC comedy sketch series kicked off that night and made several big headlines last week, including Rittenhouse’s verdict, Kevin McCarthy and Trump’s rants.
In a parody of the Fox News program, the anchor Jenny Pirro played by Cecily Strong started the show by defending the verdict and Rittenhouse.
She said: “This lovely villain went through a nightmare trial just because he did the bravest thing Americans can do-protect the old cars in other people’s towns.”
Judge Bruce Schroeder, played by Mitch Day, also joined her. He had a slight mistake in his preference for Rittenhouse. “These are all standard procedures,” he said.
“That’s why I ordered the prosecution not to use the word’victim’. They are thugs, they were not shot, they were screwed up. This did not give my clients any unfair advantage.”
Strong interrupted and pointed out his mistake. “You said,’My client.’ Are you talking about the defendant?” she asked.
“Oh, yes, of course. I always do this,” Dai replied.
Pirro also praised McCarthy, who gave an 8-hour and 32-minute speech from Thursday night to Friday morning, temporarily delaying the passage of the $1.9 trillion “Rebuild Better Act”.
Then, she invited former President Trump, who ranted on various topics, including the border wall, Chris Christie, Dua Lipa, and Bill Maher.
