Israel Aerospace Industries (IAI), through its group and subsidiary ELTA SYSTEMS LTD and ESG Elektroniksystem – und Logistik-GmbH, agreed to manufacture and deliver 69 sets of tactical mobile radar systems for the German Army.

The agreement was signed by ESG and the Federal Office of Bundeswehr Equipment, Information Technology and In-Service Support (BAAINBw). The transaction is worth 36 million euros.

The first batch of radar systems will be delivered in early 2022, and the final delivery will take place in 2024. The contract includes that the company will provide training courses and resources as well as initial spare parts to effectively share best practices.

WatchGuard radar is the fifth generation of motion detection tactical ground surveillance radar (GSR), using staring and electronic steering search technology. The radar has a high update rate and can achieve very high target detection and tracking probabilities to support complex tasks. The combination of gaze and scan allows adjustment and optimization of radar operations for any scene.

The new BARÜ (Land Based Reconnaissance and Area Monitoring System) radar system is designed to replace the aging legacy system and provide a comprehensive alternative: PARA (tank reconnaissance radar), ABRA (artillery observation radar), LEGAR 1 (light battlefield) Germany Reconnaissance radar of the Bundeswehr) and BOR-A 550 (ground surveillance radar unit 550).

BARÜ aims to provide comprehensive information acquisition for all levels of command as needed to determine potential threats, operational conditions, and conditions in potential crisis areas. The system has all-weather day/night capabilities and can conduct long-term reconnaissance and surveillance over a large area while occupying a small footprint. In addition, it also supports “Tactical Fire Support for Force Sharing” (STF), in addition to providing target tracking of previously identified enemy forces and assisting in fire correction and effect intelligence.

Zvi Yarom Vice President and General Manager of IAI-ELTA Land Systems Department: “IAI is a pioneer in continuous radar technology development, providing a variety of products and selling them globally. Over the years, our customers have provided us with real-time operational feedback and combat experience, which have been integrated into us Among all the products. We are proud to work with ESG to provide our advanced solutions to the German Army.”
