- Tequila and Orange Wine: This is the classic wine combination used for margaritas. I recommend Tequila Blanco, also known as silver tequila because it has the most neutral taste.
- Cranberry juice: I use unsweetened sour cranberry juice so I can adjust the sweetness by myself.
- Orange juice: I highly recommend freshly squeezed orange juice for best results. However, pre-squeezed orange juice will come into play at a critical juncture.
- Maple sugar: My natural sweetener of choice.
- Orange slices: For service, if needed.
- Sea salt and orange peel: For the rims!
How to add salt to the edge of a margarita glass
This is something I often do, I can easily sprinkle salt on the rim of the serving cup:
- Pour a little orange juice in a shallow dish, then mix the salt and orange zest in another shallow dish.
- Dip the top of each cup in the orange juice first, and then in the salt/orange peel. Juice helps the salt stick!
Once the edges are marinated, you can serve your drink! Super easy!

- Combine: Mix all the ingredients in a pitcher (large batch) or cocktail shaker with ice (single drink).
- Sprinkle salt on the edges: Sprinkle salt on the rim of your serving cup with orange zest and kosher salt (see above).
- Pour, decorate and eat: If necessary, add ice cubes to each glass, pour the margarita mixture, and garnish with orange slices.

What is the best wine to use in margaritas?
I mix tequila and orange wine for these margaritas! Tequila is a classic margarita, and orange wine helps to enhance the flavor of the juice in this recipe.
I always use silver tequila, or tequila liquor, because it has a milder taste. If you don’t want to use tequila, you can change it to vodka because it has a relatively mild flavor.
Tips and precautions for cranberry margaritas
- Sweetness: I prefer to use unsweetened sour cranberry juice. Then I use maple syrup to taste it with a little sugar.
- Tequila: Adjust the taste of tequila. Start with less, then add more.
- Put it on ice. These drinks are delicious. If you don’t want to add ice cubes to your drink, you can put the jug in the refrigerator before drinking.
- Let it shine. Carbonate your drink by pouring a little soda on each glass.
- Make it virgin. Can’t feel the smell of alcohol? These drinks are non-alcoholic and delicious. Just add more juice!
