Critical thinking is essentially when a person analyzes a certain situation and all the facts related to it in order to make a logical decision or opinion. Challenge your child’s opinion
Your children may share their thoughts and opinions with you from time to time. You should try to act as a champion of the devil, challenge them and show them new facts that may cause them to question their original ideas. This does not need to be done in an annoying way or in a way that destroys them, the idea is to show them new information so that they can analyze the situation and think about things more logically.
Teach your child to study
All children go through a period of constant questioning because they want to understand how the world works. As their parents, you should teach them how to conduct their own research instead of simply telling them to help them find answers. Finding facts through research (whether online or in books) is the key to critical thinking because it allows a person to form wise opinions.
Help your child recognize prejudices
Ideally, critical thinking needs to be completely objective. This is about drawing conclusions by analyzing facts without being affected by different opinions. That being said, please help your child identify prejudices and the reasons they may form.
Encourage independent problem solving
Give children room to solve problems by themselves. Of course, you can guide them in the right direction, but it is not good for them to overcome challenges on behalf of them. If they fail, remind them that there is nothing to be ashamed of, because even adults sometimes make mistakes. By encouraging independent problem solving, you will help your child understand cause and effect.
