PharmStars is led by founder and CEO Naomi Fried, a former pharmaceutical executive who discovered gaps and missing links in the way pharmaceutical companies interact with digital health startups. Fried founded PharmStars to help digital health startups improve How do they develop solutions for pharmaceutical companies, and how to demonstrate these solutions to potential customers or partners in the pharmaceutical industry.
Start-up companies participated in the 10-week “PharmaU” program, which aims to teach them the pharmaceutical industry, covering topics such as organizational structure, regulation, and trading. Four hours of class per week. Participating companies also received personalized guidance to prepare them for interaction with pharmaceutical companies. Pharmaceutical companies that are members of PharmStars include Eli Lilly, AstraZeneca subsidiary Alexion, Boehringer Ingelheim, Takeda Pharmaceuticals, Novo Nordisk and Sumitovant.
More than 70 companies representing 18 countries/regions applied for 10 places in the first batch of accelerator participants. Since what PharmStars said was the quality and quantity of applicants, the team was later expanded to 12 people. All applicants are developing a technology focused on the subject of this cohort: innovation in clinical trials.

Nori healthA digital health company in Amsterdam has an app that can be used to manage and capture real-world evidence of patients with inflammatory bowel disease.
nQ MedicalThe Cambridge, Massachusetts-based company has passive, personal device-based digital biomarkers for cognitive and movement disorders.
Prism Analysis TechnologyPrism, also located in Cambridge, has a data analysis and visualization platform for selecting and optimizing clinical trial endpoints and trial design for any disease.
Seaview ClinicThe clinical operations platform of this Redwood City, California-based company eliminates repetitive manual tasks and context switching to enable faster trials and faster insights and teamwork.
Smart labelThe Denver company has ingestible technologies that can be used to target oral biologics and other drugs.
Label bioThe developers of the data grid platform coordinate isolated data sources with the analysis layer, which the San Francisco-based startup says can enable data-driven decision-making in drug development.
Clinicians. Headquartered in Auckland, New Zealand, The Clinician has a two-way patient communication and participation platform aimed at improving the effectiveness of decentralized clinical trials.
In 2022, PharmStars plans to accept two new start-up companies. The theme of each of them has not yet been announced.
