Living at the Kingfisher Lodge in Habarana Village allows me to enjoy the benefits of being in harmony with nature.
I’m staying at Habarana Village by Cinnamon in Habarana in early November 2021 and I can’t wait to return to this cradle of love for more vacations. When I arrived late at night, the staff handled my check in friendly and efficient. Upon arrival, I received a document on which I had to fill in my medical history and details of my previous and future travels due to Covid19 requirements.

Meanwhile, I was given a refreshing cucumber welcome drink to make the whole process even more enjoyable, and I filled out a form in the waiting area, which was furnished with exquisite wooden furniture and looked quaint. I also received two betel leaves with purple flowers as a traditional welcome gift.

Soon after, I got the keys to the Kingfisher Lodge, a honeymoon suite. The rectangular keychain is painted in pink and purple. It’s a great color choice because it’s hard to miss or lose keys. For a solo traveler like myself, the Kingfisher Lodge is a luxury treat. This honeymoon suite is located at the other end of the resort, facing the beautiful lake and a short walk away. I strolled through the waiting room that leads to the sports bar and restaurant, and then past the suite behind the pool to this luxurious cottage.

The walk was great as I woke up the next morning to a spectacular lake view and passed some breathtaking scenery on the way to the restaurant for a delicious breakfast. There are lots of trees around, although Habarana is an upscale village, to say the least in terms of ambience. Located off the beaten track in a remote area, Habarana Village is an open oasis for lovers of complete tranquility and romance.

Also known as the Kingfisher Lodge, the Honeymoon Suite at Habarana Village by Cinnamon is a lake-view cabin that is the cradle of love. During my stay, I also had a chance to see a small Komodo dragon. And that’s just the beginning of everything this suite has to offer in terms of exoticism. Back in the suite, like the other cabins, the exterior includes a private balcony. Except in Habarana Village, where even the outdoor furniture is made of teak, I have two front seats and a teak recliner.

A blue hammock hangs outside the suite, overlooking the lake and lush surroundings. This cottage-style apartment features a compact room with extra seating at the offset. The colors used in the decoration are mainly white, yellow and brown. This suite features a king-sized poster bed facing a white sofa with yellow cushions and a window with curtains. These windows face the lake, allowing you to enjoy the view from the comfort of your bed.
If you want seclusion, there are two layers of curtains here to block the sun during the day and provide solitude at night. The curtains can be opened and closed easily with the roller curtain holder. Pure white canopy bed curtains hang loosely around the king-sized poster bed, complete with an assortment of pillows and a pillow menu. There are charging stations on either side of the bed. I slept well thanks to the luxurious bedding. The simple pleasures of life can be enjoyed in the charming setting of Kingfisher Lodge.

El Hena Restaurant
On my first night, Habarana Village in Cinnamon arranged for me a lovely traditional candlelit Sri Lankan dinner at the poolside restaurant El Hena. This restaurant is the perfect place to sample international cuisine in the countryside. When you walk into the country house of Habarana Village, you will see a semi-open restaurant on the right hand side. This is El Hena, serving the most delicious international buffet prepared with fresh local ingredients.
The next day, I had breakfast and lunch at El Hena by the pool. My breakfast consisted mainly of waffles and sausage and some local side dishes, but the restaurant has an extensive breakfast menu to choose from! For lunch I had Coconut Sambal, Chicken Karupol, Prawn Baduma, Tapioca Leaves and Tibatu Malem, Poros Ambra, Banana Blossom, Pumpkin Mustard Curry, Agunakola Sambal and Ambarella Achcharu and Curry Leaves meal.
Food is served in crockery for lunch and dinner, and a steel bell jar for breakfast. Overall, every meal was delicious with a variety of flavors. My heart was completely engrossed in this delicious feast of traditional Sri Lankan flavours and specialities from around the world.

In addition to staying in luxury accommodation, you can also cycle around the hotel. Cycling allows you to explore every nook and cranny of the small village of Habarana because it is such a huge place. A walk around the lake is calm and relaxing, and it’s certainly one of the best activities you can do while you’re here.
