Climate Change Council and Nestlé PH bring together the brightest minds on climate action at Klimathon final showcase Ten teams were selected to advance to the finals and were mentored by industry experts.
The impact of climate change is gradually intensifying around the world, with more severe weather conditions in countries and an increasing rate of sea level rise. Recognizing this, youth are taking a variety of ways to mitigate climate change, such as supporting environmental causes, reducing their carbon footprint, and using their voices to raise awareness about current climate conditions. As a way of providing Filipino youth with a platform to develop new and viable solutions that help address pressing climate issues, the Climate Change Council (CCC) and Nestlé Philippines launched “Klimathon: Our Journey to a Net Zero Reality” in October 2021. After receiving entries from national entrants, CCC and Nestlé selected 10 teams that will advance to the final stage of Klimathon and receive a mentoring program led by experts in sustainability, agriculture, energy and technology. Finalists present their project concepts at the virtual Klimathon finals showcase.

Each of the top 10 exemplifies youth’s innovative thinking and out-of-the-box approach to helping solve the country’s environmental problems. From upcycling fish food waste to bioplastics to solar temperature and humidity controlled food storage bins.
During the event, members of the mentoring pool were also introduced to help participants refine their proposed solutions and support them as they become more involved in future climate action.
Following the mentoring session, the three winning teams will be nominated for the Klimathon Finals in April 2022. The Special Citation Award will be awarded to entries that embody and promote gender empowerment, originality and community engagement.
