Traditional reception to the God of Wealth
First, let’s talk about OG’s way of welcoming the God of Wealth into your home – in true traditional style. Ready to spread some prosperity vibes? Here is your guide:
Set the stage
- Pick up your supplies: God of Wealth incense paper and God of Wealth statues are a must. Buy them at any incense shop.
- vertically placed: Find the perfect spot for your portrait, but not near a bathroom door, a trash can, or around women's clothing. Instead, think of a front door, a balcony, or the inside of a house (but hide the laundry first!).
- Fragrant FTW: Changxiang is your first choice. After praying, place them in the incense burner at home. No urn? Let them burn in the living room.
Prepare yourself and your space
- Only clean vibes: Take a shower in advance to show sincerity. Also, scrub the altar with water and dry it. Placement is important: stay 1, 2, 3, 8 or 9 feet away from the main door. Balconies or HDB corridors are also available (please open the windows!).
- make it personal: Write your details – name, age, address and wishes on the “God of Wealth Wishing Card”. Write this sentence on the card: “Otsi year is a gift from the God of Wealth.” In the lower left corner add “Zhizi” (male) or “Xinnu” (female) and your name. Burn the card with the incense paper outside the house.

- Practice what you preach: After the reception, walk backwards into the house. When hanging a portrait, take 3, 8, 13, 23, or 33 steps (no need to overthink it!).
- hang out with the old one: First burn last year’s God of Wealth statue with incense paper, and then welcome the new God of Wealth statue.

- 11:00 pm: Take a cleansing bath.
- 11:15pm: Worship the gods and gods at home.
- 11:30pm: Get your cult items ready.
- 11:40pm: Light incense, make a wish, pray (skip this if your zodiac sign conflicts this year!).
- 12:15 am: Place the God of Wealth statue and incense.
- 12:40 noon: Burn incense paper in front of the main entrance.
