A local business SEO budget of $3,000 a month

For SEO-focused marketers, nothing is more frustrating than a client or employer looking to get instant results on a tight budget.

After all, SEO is a long game.

It takes patience and strategy.

Still, this happens all the time.

So, as marketers, we must know how to adapt quickly and produce good results small budgetespecially if the client or our boss only gives us one chance to prove our worth.

accomplish Good – no, great SEO – Certainly feasible in a short period of time. I have done it. My team has done it.

The key is knowing which SEO tasks to prioritize.

To illustrate my point, I’d like to introduce you to my favorite hypothetical client, Voltage: The Salon.

The salon hopes to market to millennials and Gen Z by offering upscale, stylish services.

Plan an initial 1-month SEO budget of $3,000

This salon wanted to work with me as they were new to it.

Their current rankings are not very good [salon near me] or any other related keywords.

they do not Google Business Profile go public, either.

We are really starting from scratch.

$3,000 doesn’t feel like a lot, but it falls right in the $1,000 to $5,000 range, considered the most common average budget. SEJ’s State of SEO Report.

26.8% of respondents said they were working with them; another 23% were asked to achieve results at a cost of $500 to $1,000 per month.

Back to our salon: their business goal is to get more clients and increase revenue.

For that, they need more conversions, which they measure in two ways:

  • telephone.
  • and booked an appointment on their website.

They’re sure the way to do this is to “appear on Google.”

I convince them that SEO is the best way to rank well on Google in the long term.

They gave me $3,000 and a one month trial.

At the end of that month, we’ll look at where the site is and figure out how to proceed.

You know as well as I do, I better be able to show results or they won’t be throwing another $3,000 into SEO next month.

  • my hourly rate: 100 dollars.
  • total hours allocated: 30.

SEO Weekly

The best SEO jobs often start by running a technical audit, especially in this case it’s a whole new kind of engagement.

We don’t know the history of the site and need to spot any potential issues that might undermine our best SEO efforts.

the first week

If you’re short on money and time, don’t use the few resources you have to try to optimize a website that doesn’t work because of a technical error. That would be a waste.

A technically sound website provides a solid foundation for future great SEO results.

Keeping this in mind, I use my SEO tools to run Comprehensive technical editor About voltage: Salon’s website.

Crawling this site only takes an hour or two because it’s not very robust.

After my SEO tool finished crawling the site, I looked at my error list and found it was longer than I expected.

I start Prioritize which bugs are the most important speech. I make a list.

We’re down three hours now.

Next, I divided my list into bugs that were easy to fix in a short amount of time and those that weren’t. Standard practice is to fix bugs marked as “Critical” or “Error” first, so I started there.

The most pressing errors I’ve noticed are:

I estimate these fixes will take me about five hours of work to fix, and I intend to finish them this week.

Unfortunately, things didn’t go the way I wanted.

While fixing bugs, I had to do extra work tweaking server settings and looking at hosting accounts to find the easiest and most sustainable areas to increase page speed.

On top of that, some management features didn’t work as expected, and often quick edits turned into research and troubleshooting.

The five hours I expected to spend fixing these bugs turned into seven.

This gives me about 20 hours for the rest of the month.

  • Hours used this week: 10.
  • Estimated hours remaining: 20.

the second week

I fixed technical bugs, but it took longer than I expected.

This is holding me back a bit, but it’s necessary to set up the site to be successful.

Anyway, my priority this week is to build my client’s website on Google Analytics, Google Search Console and Google Business Profiles.

I started with low-hanging fruit Google Analytics and google search console.

I submit the sitemap and move on.

Next, Google business profiles.

I set aside more time for this task because I recognize its importance and need to do some work to optimize “hair salons near me” and “top hair salons near me”.

This takes about an hour.

I thought about it and asked the owner of the voltage: Sharon declare their list Now I need to make sure the information listed is correct.

This includes NAP (name, address, phone number) and services provided by my clients.

I will Optimizing Google Listings After I did some keyword and content research.

Setting up these accounts takes about three hours.

  • Hours used this week: 4.
  • Estimated hours remaining: 16.

The third week

To make the most of the rest of my time, I will do keywords, competitors and content research.

I have a fair amount of time allocated for each of these tasks, but in general, expect to spend no more than 10 hours on this.

we start from keyword research.

As expected, the competition for this keyword is quite high, but the search volume for applicable keywords is high.

I went on to determine which keywords worked best for this particular website.

I put these keywords in my Preferred SEO Tool Follow them and start my competitor research.

I would like to see how their competitors rank and the type of content they produce and do that by Perform a gap analysis.

As it turns out, the top salons in the region are producing a lot of written content.

This is on the list of jobs I want my clients to do in the future.

I was able to regain the time lost at the beginning of the month because the task took only 9 hours to complete.

  • Hours used this week: 9.
  • Estimated hours remaining: 7.

the fourth week

This week is about optimizing for I hope voltage: keywords for which salons rank well.

I will do this with both on the page and off-page SEO.

I know creating content is a priority, but now I’m more worried about a poorly optimized overall site structure.

I fixed it to improve user experience, crawlability, etc.

Next, I optimize the page builder and image size to further improve site speed.

This takes me about three hours to complete.

I add specific, keyword-centric meta tags, titles, and body text to lead generation pages.

Then, I index my processed pages.

It also takes me about three hours.

In the end, I spent about an hour adding content to the client’s GMB listing, including photos, posts, and more.

At the end of the month, I check how the site is doing and create a report detailing:

  • my discovery.
  • Future results that customers can expect to see.
  • And my advice for continuing with SEO work.

I did this myself because I saw it as an added value and an opportunity to show more work and partnerships for my own benefit.

My report details the scope of the work I’ve done, much the same as what I’ve done here.

My goal is to communicate the value of the work I do and demonstrate the foundation for future SEO success.

My follow-up SEO work plan is to support the content on the site, continue to target keywords relevant to user intent, and build that client’s local search presence so they rank well in organic and map packs.

  • Hours used this week: 7.
  • Estimated hours remaining: 0.

in conclusion

My goal for the first month of this campaign is to lay the groundwork for good SEO in the future and have clients rank well for keywords related to the services they provide.

Overall, I accomplished this goal.

I fixed technical errors, created a Google Business location, completed the necessary research, and started on-page SEO work.

Voltage the Salon’s website is now able to rank higher in organic search results and shows up well in other map package listings.

Don’t panic if you find yourself in a similar position and your clients expect the world to have a small budget.

SEO requires patience and planning, but if you can prioritize what’s most important, you can get the results you want and the results your customers expect.
