High-level delegates receive event updates at DIMDEX 2022 Official Diplomat Briefing


Ambassadors, Defense and Commercial Commissioners and Military Representatives were informed about the main functions of DIMDEX.

As the countdown to the 7th Doha International Maritime Defence Exhibition and Conference (DIMDEX) begins, the Organizing Committee provided an update on preparations and an overview of the event at a briefing for diplomats at the Sharq Village and Spa on 21 February .

One of the most anticipated events on the international maritime defense and security calendar, DIMDEX 2022 will be the largest and most diverse edition ever, with more than 200 companies from nearly 20 countries showcasing their products and capabilities. The biennial event, sponsored by Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani, Emir of the State of Qatar and hosted and organized by the Qatar Armed Forces, will take place in 2022 Centre under the theme (QNCC) at the Qatar National Congress, 21-23 March ‘Connecting the world’s maritime defense and security communities.

An overview of DIMDEX’s progress in past editions was presented to diplomats and other high-level delegates attending the briefing. The DIMDEX Organizing Committee also shared details of the various aspects and attractions of the next edition: the main exhibition showcasing new and future technologies, the Middle East Naval Commanders Conference (MENC), the visiting warship display in Hamad Port, and An opportunity to network with VIPs and senior defense decision makers, including the Secretary of Defense, Chief of Staff, Secretary of the Navy, Coast Guard Commanders and Defense Industry Chiefs, who will be attending DIMDEX 2022.

Officials from the Ministry of Public Health and Qatar Armed Forces Medical Services representatives provided details of the medical preparedness plan developed for the event, including COVID-19 health and safety protocols. The diplomats also shared with the diplomats details of the hospitality and services of the official VIP delegation, as well as insights into the logistics and security of the visiting warship that will be hosted in Hamad Port. DIMDEX 2022 visitors will have the opportunity to get up close and personal with a range of warships from navies around the world. Although DIMDEX 2018 exhibited 9 warships from 7 countries, the organizing committee expects 15-20 warships in the next edition. Crew members of visiting warships are welcome to explore Doha and activities related to the event, including the upcoming Crew Sports Championships, to promote camaraderie among visiting crew members.

The Middle East Naval Commanders Conference (MENC), which will take place on the second day of the three-day event, is one of DIMDEX’s most popular features. During the briefing, attendees were provided with details of the event, including the conference theme – “Resilience in the Ocean Sector – Responding to Asymmetric Threats” – and information about the keynote speakers. At the conference, a wonderful panel of academic experts and industry leaders will discuss various hot issues in the marine sector and try to find globally applicable solutions to the challenges facing the field. DIMDEX has expanded in scope and size over the years since its inaugural show in 2008, and the exhibition space at DIMDEX 2022 will be larger than previous editions. In QNCC’s more than 35,000 square meters of landscaped area, exhibitors will showcase their products and capabilities, in addition to networking with key decision makers from Qatar and other countries.

Through successive editions, DIMDEX has built a reputation for promoting significant commercial success and providing unparalleled opportunities for knowledge sharing at the highest levels of industry and government. The event has played an important role not only in the development of Qatar’s military capabilities, but also in accelerating the development of the country’s domestic defense industry. More than 13,000 visitors and participants from 69 countries attended the sixth edition of DIMDEX. The upcoming edition will feature more than 200 companies from around the world showcasing the latest innovations in the maritime and naval sectors, including anti-piracy systems, C5iSR systems, artificial intelligence software, electronic warfare and intelligence, and autonomous systems, and is expected to see the largest ever number of tourists.
