EndeavorRx is the first and only doctor-prescribed video game therapy for children with ADHD.
A sort of Learn The findings, published in the medical journal PLOS ONE, EndeavorRx Video Game Therapy Company from Akili Interactive Labs improves brain function in pediatric patients with ADHD recently announced. Akili expects to launch the treatment in the second half of this year.
UCSFCisco’s Courtney Gallen and Joaquin Angela Led a single-arm, open-label study that combined electroencephalographic (EEG) data from behavioral and clinical measures of attention in pediatric ADHD patients using EndeavorRx. As a result of the treatment, the children’s brain activity related to attention function increased.
“EndeavorRx is designed to target and activate attentional networks in the brain designed to drive clinically meaningful cognitive changes in patients. What’s particularly exciting about these data is that, for the first time, we can see how the nervous systems of children with ADHD are Affected by EndeavorRx treatment,” Akili Chief Medical Officer Anil S. Jina said in an email.
Endeavour Rx is the first and only FDA-approved digital therapy delivered through a video game experience. In the United States, EndeavorRx has been approved to help improve attention function as measured by computer-based tests in children aged 8-12. These children primarily suffer from inattentive or combined ADHD and have distinct challenges maintaining focus.
Akili isn’t just for ADHD. Akili CEO Eddie Martucci said the company is looking at other disease areas, envisioning EndeavorRx as a potential platform technology, an avenue they plan to pursue.
“We’re just beginning to scratch the surface of the potential of digital therapeutics. In EndeavorRx’s case, we’re targeting specific areas of the brain that are critical for attentional function,” Martucci said in an email. “The efficacy of EndeavorRx makes it the first and only prescription video game to treat the disease. In addition, the safety profile of EndeavorRx is a significant advantage in this patient population. For example, there are no serious side effects associated with the use of EndeavorRx.”
Digital therapy requires a prescription and is designed to directly target neural networks critical to attention function. According to Martucci, it’s designed to be part of a child’s overall treatment plan, which may include cognitive behavioral therapy, counseling, ADHD medication, or other tools, depending on the patient’s needs.
“EndeavorRx uses proprietary technology, using sensory stimulation and synchronized motor challenges, designed to target and activate the fronto-parietal cortex, which plays a key role in attentional function,” said Martucci. “It uses an adaptive closed-loop algorithm to personalize the treatment experience for each patient. This allows the treatment to continuously adapt to challenge each patient on an individual level.”
The company is seeking to shift the medical paradigm, envisioning that the technology itself is the paradigm of medicine. In the case of EndeavorRx, this is achieved by directly targeting neural networks necessary for cognitive function.
“While digital therapy is often able to provide a user-friendly experience for patients, we’ve taken it to the next level, developing clinically proven treatments designed to be indistinguishable from high-end entertainment experiences,” Martucci added.
The study was clinically validated by researchers at the University of California, San Francisco, weeks after the Boston-based company made a different announcement. late January, Company revealed It plans to go public through a special purpose acquisition company (SPAC) in a transaction that will bring in total cash proceeds of $412 million.
Kishen Mehta, Averill Strategic Portfolio Manager and President, Suvretta Capital Management, said: “Akili has created a unique disease-agnostic technology platform with a pipeline of advanced product candidates spanning multiple indications that have achieved proof-of-concept .” SCS.
Social Capital Suvretta Holdings Corp is the SPAC entity with which Akili intends to merge and go public in the middle of this year.
