White guy doesn’t find his hot Asian wife attractive, what? – Pop music! Cherry-picked AAPI pop culture news!

In this latest column, we learn that Asians are sometimes victims of themselves (or other Asians) — I mean, obviously, except for being victims of white supremacy.

Also, someone is starting to go crazy and we need to unite and bring our uncool selves to the platform and destroy TikTok for young people. Why? I mean, it’s our birthright.

“Love at first sight” white people aren’t attracted to sexy Asian wife because he’s racist… ok?

Australian Love at First Sight is actually a reality show about strangers (brought together by dubious professional matchmakers and show producers) who get married when they first meet. That’s just the first episode. The rest of the show details the ups and downs of each couple’s marriage.

One of the couples from the latest season is Selina Chhaur and Cody Bromley. They’ve had a rough ride on the show, mostly because Cody is racist, and it’s usually hard to marry a racist when you’re not white.

Failing that, in an episode that aired earlier in the season, the couple had to do this honest challenge. Charle asked whether Bromley’s lack of attraction to her was due to her “nationality” (race) or her looks.

Dude was like, “I think it does have something to play with initially…I’m by no means racist…Selina is usually not my type. I usually go for that blond surf look. That’s exactly what I’m drawn to. attractive place.”

Chhaur ended up in tears because she did it. Then, despite apparently hanging out with a stupid and not-so-hot asshole, she insists on continuing with her future abuser.

Guess what? In yesterday’s finale, we learned that he completely dumped her while she was crying on the couch next to him, the show host asked him, WTF. He was like, “I’m racist, she’s Asian, what can I say?”

No, I’m kidding! He doesn’t have that kind of self-knowledge!

He was like, “It feels forced.”

Politicians play racist Sinophobic ads – plot twist! He is a Democrat!

Rep. Tim Ryan, a white Democrat from Ohio, ran a campaign ad that read, “China is communist! They won! Don’t let them win!” I paraphrased there. But that’s basically what the ad is about.

People are crazy. Asians are crazy. I’m sure he has a lot of emails in his inbox right now.

Ryan responded in a statement to NBC News: “My entire career has been sounding the alarm on China, thanks to a concerted strategy by the Chinese Communist government that includes currency manipulation, intellectual property theft and artificial wage suppression, Using child labor and brutal working conditions – our greatest economic adversary for 40 years…I will never apologise for doing what I can against China and fighting for all Ohioans.”

For a white man in power, that was predictable.

But here’s another plot twist, folks: The offensive ad in question was reportedly produced by Left Hook Strategy, led by several Asian-American partners (though none of them appear to be Chinese).

Can I also say I’m not that surprised here too?

Just last week, “Supermarket” actor Nico Santos, 42, was at the center of a hyper-public proposal for the 33rd GLAAD Media Awards. he said yes! (His fiancé is “Survivor” contestant Zeke Smith, 34.)

I usually don’t care about proposals due to patriarchy, but I was fascinated by this one because it distorts convention. Smith is white and a trans man; Santos is Filipino.

I love that these two created such a beautiful sight. I love that Smith got down on his knees to propose.

OMG Psy is on TikTok now, which means I need to give my life back to TikTok

OK, here’s a public service announcement for all the other millennials: Psy is now on TikTok, folks!

This week, the South Korean singer, best known in the US for his 2012 hit “Gangnam Style,” finally joined TikTok! I ended up saying it because if anyone made for TikTok, it was this guy, the creator of one of the most popular meme dances of all time.

I left TikTok for a while because I lost so many lives down the rabbit hole and my feelings hurt when I low-key watching videos of teens lamenting how old people like moms in their 30s are ruining Drop TikTok. them.

I’m showing my pain through revenge though, so I’m glad Psy’s 44-year-old self joined the platform and brought a whole bunch of older guys to TikTok and made it not cool because older guys like us don’t will do.

By the way, Psy’s ninth album is also said to be released this year!

Amazon’s ‘As We See It’ features Asia leader who’s also autistic

This past weekend, I stumbled across and subsequently binge-watched “As We See It,” an Amazon Prime Video series about three 20-something roommates navigating their lives and love. I know this sounds the same as every other show, but the difference here is that all three main characters are autistic and they are played by different types of actors – unfortunately this is not the case in TV and movies is not common. So this is huge.

And the show is really good. I can poetically explain why it’s great, but you need to watch it to see for yourself. One of the stars of the show is Sue Ann Pien. Although Pien is playing a character in his 20s, in reality, the actor is 42 years old. I bring this up just to say that Pien has obviously spent years honing her craft and playing smaller or background roles. This is her first starring role. I was impressed with her perseverance and passion as an artist. She is great on this show. Look at it, look at her!
