A growing number of healthcare innovators are looking to harness AI to help solve tough problems, such as addressing staffing shortages and leveraging patient data to improve outcomes. But often even seemingly effective solutions are slow to implement — and that’s what two organizations are setting out to change with new healthcare AI companies creating platforms.
Northwell HealthNew York’s largest health systems and entrepreneurship studio Aegis Ventures announced on Tuesday that they had roll out Prove Accelerate the commercialization of new AI companies in healthcare. According to the organizations, the partnership brings in $100 million in seed-stage funding and permanent long-term growth capital to fund and launch large-scale AI companies.
“Emerging AI companies are facing common challenges, including adoption by large customers for market validation, limited access to disparate datasets, inconsistent incentives across different stakeholders, and substantial resource requirements,” the platform said. This will, in part, leverage Northwell Health’s clinical leadership and diverse datasets, which represent many communities in the U.S. and around the world, Manning said. The hope is that these emerging breakthrough healthcare AI companies will be able to improve quality and access to care and close health equity gaps.
“Ascertain aims to build healthcare AI companies faster than any other way,” Manning said.
The joint venture has begun working with Northwell’s clinicians and executives to develop portfolio companies. One of the early collaborations involved making meaningful improvements in maternal health, Health care has historically been underserved, Manning says Investors and entrepreneurs.

“Existing methods of testing for preeclampsia typically occur in the third trimester, once the condition begins to manifest,” Burt Rochelson, MD, director of maternal medicine at Northwell Health, said in a statement. “An important enabler for addressing this challenge is predictive analytics, leveraging existing knowledge of a patient’s medical history to act earlier with simple but life-saving clinical interventions. We believe that the AI solutions that Ascertain is currently developing will enable at this point.”
With this and other initiatives, the new platform is focused on rapid solution development and speed to market.
