New Capabilities Extend Naval Power Beyond the Horizon

The sea has always been a strategic paradise for countries around the world. In the past, projecting naval power on the high seas was enough to demonstrate a nation’s military might.

Today, national interests are also concentrated in coastal areas and inland seas—the battlefield becomes crowded, complex, and even more challenging as ships move closer to the mainland. The situation could be exacerbated on the battlefield where the enemy maintains anti-access and area denial (A2AD) capabilities in the form of long-range air defenses, littoral anti-ship missiles, and mines. These threats are restricting freedom of navigation and the movement of naval forces, and endangering merchant shipping and threatening sea lanes.

Today’s navy faces rapidly evolving threats, fueled by significant technological advancements in targeting and attack systems. Advanced threats include aircraft and warships with low radar cross-sections—both manned and unmanned; sophisticated long-range anti-ship cruise missiles; and targeting sensors, including airborne and satellite imaging radars. These threats enhance the enemy’s ability to attack ships from out of sight and threaten to saturate traditional defenses with multiple simultaneous attacks.

In order to provide naval forces with effective countermeasures against these developments, Israel Aerospace Industries (IAI) has leveraged its rich technological heritage and culture of innovation to introduce state-of-the-art integrated naval systems, including the BARAK MX air and missile defense system with LRAD and ER interceptors, loitering munitions, VTOLs, and more.

Building on decades of experience, delivering naval battle-proven offensive and defensive weapons, sensors, battle management and information systems, IAI works with the world’s navies to deploy the latest defense solutions to empower naval fleets and maritime security forces for new Prepare for the challenge of combat.

Maintain ocean domain awareness

IAI provides the Navy with a comprehensive suite of sensors to protect its coastal waters, coastal areas and Economic Exclusion Zones (EEZs). Such a suite of systems ranges from SAR and optical satellites, to air and maritime patrols by aircraft and UAVs, to coastal radars, including over-the-horizon (OTH), signals intelligence (SIGINT), and electro-optical observations. By integrating multiple functions, customers can establish comprehensive maritime situational awareness (MSA).

These systems rely on a variety of information sources, including commercial, open source information such as AIS and vessel traffic monitoring, wide-area scanning using space-based synthetic aperture radar (SAR), horizon and ground-based radar scanning, electronic surveillance, communication interception via imaging sensors and tracking. By employing sensor fusion, artificial intelligence, machine learning, and decision support algorithms, IAI’s MSA information system simplifies operator workflows, gaining more time for decision-making and cost-effective resource allocation.

Comprehensive Combat Kit

Navy ships follow a similar path by integrating onboard sensors and weapons with IAI naval combat kit. IAI’s open-architecture CMS integrates these capabilities into weapons, platforms, and the entire task force, enabling network-centric operations.

IAI’s BARAK MX Naval Air and Missile Defense System reflects this capability. The Barak MX family of weapons uses area defense to intercept aircraft, missiles or drones at ranges up to 70 kilometers (LRAD) or 150 kilometers (ER), extending the defense coverage of the entire task force by combining multiple BARAK-carrying ships The system becomes an integrated defense network. Users can also network their offensive weapons for scalable and optimized effects. These capabilities may include a range of IAI-built weapons, including long-range missiles, cruise weapons, or precision-guided missiles with multiple homing capabilities.

IAI’s innovative naval systems leverage cutting-edge technology and innovation, backed by decades of experience developing and deploying integrated naval suites, sensors and combat systems that enable the Navy to detect and decisively defeat threats in the most challenging conditions, and provide it with maritime advantages. nation.
