What Comcast Offers
May is Asian Pacific American (AAPI) Heritage Month, an opportunity to recognize the excellence and resilience of Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders in the United States
Throughout the month, Comcast NBCUniversal will highlight the diversity and influence of the AAPI community, with a focus on spreading awareness and education.
As one of the largest distributors of multicultural programming in the United States, we are passionate about leveraging our platform to celebrate the AAPI community year-round with our Asian American film and TV series, where our Xfinity TV customers can access thousands of hours of high Quality Asian and on-demand Asian American entertainment on Xfinity X1, Flex and Stream.
This year’s series celebrates culture, honors resilience and honors the contributions of the AAPI community through award-winning films, the best of Bollywood, historical documentaries, globally recognized anime films and other must-see AAPI stories. Xfinity X1 customers can access this content by saying “Asian American” in the X1 Voice Remote.
NBCUniversal will also promote and highlight the diversity of the AAPI community through its “AAPI Amplified: Stronger Together” campaign.
We’re also working to provide resources to Asian-owned small businesses through our Comcast RISE program, with entrepreneurs such as Maikaru, owner of Mainasty Productions in Seattle, receiving support in the form of financial grants, free marketing services and technology upgrades.
Throughout the month, we also focused specifically on individuals who are addressing major challenges facing the AAPI community, while also celebrating the rich and diverse influence of Asian leaders and changemakers, including Comcast Newsmaker and President and Executive Officer Noël Special Feature by Dr. S. Harmon Mitchell T. Maki, Director of APAI Scholars and President and CEO of the Go For Broke National Education Center. These interviews and more are freely available to the public online and on social media. Comcast customers can also access them on Xfinity X1, Flex and Stream using the voice command “Comcast Newsmakers”.
As part of an ongoing collaboration with Asian Americans Advancing Justice, Comcast NBCUniversal is supporting the Misinformation/Disinformation Project, which addresses how misinformation and disinformation campaigns on social media focus on issues affecting communities, including Safety and immigration, harmful to the AAPI community. NBC Asian American also released a multimedia project called AAPI Action, highlighting 100 solutions developed over the past two years to combat anti-Asian hatred, from local fundraising campaigns to national legislation. The team will also publish Hidden History feature stories throughout the month, highlighting AAPI culture.
Throughout the year, Comcast’s Asian Pacific American Employee Resource Group provides its members with professional development, community outreach, cultural enrichment, leadership and networking opportunities, all to create and maintain a diverse and inclusive work environment . In May, Comcast will welcome Kenji Yoshino, Chief Justice Earl Warren Professor of Constitutional Law and Director of the Center for Diversity, Inclusion and Belonging at NYU Law School as a guest speaker in our Staff DE&I Speaker Series .
These initiatives are all part of the company’s commitment to promoting diversity, equity and inclusion and using our platform to tell the story of the incredible impact the AAPI community has had on our company and our country.
