Former Prime Minister Stephen Harper urged the international community not to allow Iran’s incoming president to have a place on the global negotiating table.
Speaking at the virtual meeting of the Free Iran World Summit on Saturday, Harper told attendees that the hardliner Ebrahim Raisi’s coming to power further proved that “trying to appease the Iranian regime is stupid.”
Harper is ashamed of any government that tries to negotiate with Lacey’s incoming government, which will formally come to power next month.
He described the election of Raisi as president-elect as a hoax and said it exposed the fiction of moderates within the Iranian government.
He said that efforts to save the nuclear agreement signed with Tehran in 2015 will only encourage the courage of extremist forces.
When Raisi rejected the possibility of meeting with US President Joe Biden last month, he bluntly predicted how Iran might engage with the wider world. If negotiators can save the old agreement, then the hope of expanding the nuclear agreement is Shattered.
