Buy your own car now?Consider these two key things first

Is now the best time to buy a car for yourself?

Thanks to Covid-19, we’ve been at home for about two years without worrying about traffic jams, the stress of commuting or traveling, and pollution. But now that the world is finally opening up again, many of us are now being asked to go back to the office or go out and meet people for work. Also because of the two-year shutdown, many of us are also excited to go out and do rebound trips or road trip.

You think you need your own car to handle it. It’s safer to share a car with someone you don’t know who may have a virus or a virus (if you ride in a carpool, taxi, or public transportation) than in your own car. Safer than you think sorry.

Yes, the lockdown has spoiled us in a way and we need to get out. Do you need a car? Should you buy one? OK, let me sort it out for you. Here are two key things to consider when buying your own car:

1 Lifestyle

First, do a lifestyle check. Another thing you have to consider is whether owning a car is convenient for you and not a constant worry? Do you travel a lot for work or leisure? Or are the available public transport options sufficient for your needs?

Do you have a safe and secure parking space that you don’t have to pay too much for?

Are you missing out on more job opportunities because you don’t have enough mobility without a car at your fingertips?

If you work more from home or office and park your car somewhere for a few hours then public transportation may be sufficient, but if commuting stress takes a toll on your budget and health, maybe owning a car is the better choice.

2 budget

Do you have enough money to buy a car? Are you buying a new or used car? Are you going to take out a loan or pay in cash? Whether the loan you have to pay monthly or quarterly or annually is more practical than the amount you would spend on commuting (bus, jeep, MRT, light rail, taxi, Grab, Uber, Lyft, car rental, etc.) ,cheaper?

If you have to work in a lot of places, owning your own car would be the best option. If it’s just parked somewhere after get off work and waiting for you and you have to pay for parking and so on,

Maybe you have to think about it. Personally, the only time I need a car is when I want to get out of town for a quick beach getaway, for the rest, I can settle in with a Grab/taxi I don’t need worrying about parking, maintenance , driver fee or sorting.

own car

Is now the best time to buy a new car?

I’m not sure, but with fuel prices going up and coming months, I don’t think buying my own car is a practical option for me.

I heard the supply of new cars is limited. A used car might be a good option, but with how many miles left and all the maintenance required, it’s better to buy a new car.

it’s up to you

If all the answers above suggest that owning your own car has more positive outcomes, then go for it anyway. If I could drive in a city with heavy traffic, I would probably own my own car, but right now, the ride-sharing app I use is more than enough for me. I used to dream of riding a different car every day of my life, now with Grab, Uber, Lyft, it’s all possible. The best part is that I don’t have to worry about parking, maintenance, driver or driving, it’s so convenient.
