Despite the many similarities between Italian and English, there are still many words that repeatedly haunt Italian students—and not all of them are fake friend!
One of the biggest headaches for learners is double consonants, which are different from single consonants because the sound is longer and more powerful. Unfortunately, since we don’t have double consonants in English, these words often sound the same to an untrained English ear.
Another stumbling block is words with accents on vowels. The letters that make up the two words may be the same, but simply adding an accented vowel can completely change the pronunciation.
Finally, we have words whose meanings have changed dramatically by changing one letter.Most of them are male/female pairs, one of which starts with -o another in -One.
