
Announcing Fall 2022 Professional Studies and Pre-University Programs
Columbia Climate School is pleased to announce our return professional study and college prep Fall 2022 classes. Teaching leading experts and scientists in their fields, these courses will continue to expose learners to the science behind the headlines and accelerate personal educational and career goals. The fall 2022 meeting will continue to be conducted remotely via Zoom.
Both our professional study and university preparatory courses are delivered in group sessions for targeted instruction, personalised interaction and networking opportunities with researchers and peers. All sessions are recorded, giving participants the flexibility to adjust their schedules or easily review past material. These opportunities offer the same level of rigor and quality as Columbia University degree programs, so no matter where you are in the world, participants will experience a high-quality program. At the end of each workshop, learners receive a certificate of participation.

This Professional study plan Allows working professionals and adult learners to further their knowledge and skills in new topics without the need for a long-term commitment to a degree program. This programme is ideal for individuals pursuing a climate- or sustainability-oriented career looking to acquire new skills to enhance their current role, wishing to explore career transitions in the field, or simply life-long learners seeking new knowledge and experience. Climate Risk and the Law
join in Romany Weber Columbia Climate School’s Sabine Center for Climate Change Law The workshop will introduce participants to the science of climate change detection and attribution—a body of research that explores links between human activity and climate change—and how models can be used to develop climate change projections. Come discuss how climate science is and will be used by executive agencies to inform policy-making and regulatory action on climate change. The workshop will be held from October 18th to November 29th from 5:30pm to 7:40pm ET, with some exceptions.

Forecast, Forecast or Omen – Weather and Climate Modeling
join in Simon Mason Columbia Climate School’s International Institute for Climate and Society Examine how weather and climate forecasts and forecasts were made from minutes to centuries ago. Come explore how to measure how good (or bad) forecasts are, highlight ways that forecasts can sometimes look good, and address the question of how much confidence you can have in any forecast. This workshop will be held from October 27th to December 15th from 5:30pm to 8:00pm EST.

college prep
our University Preparatory Program For high school students in grades 9-12 (and entering grades 9) who are interested in extending their learning beyond the classroom and improving their knowledge and skills in the areas of climate change and sustainable development. Our workshops revolve around live conversations, hands-on activities and project-based learning, allowing students to learn about real-world research, ideas and solutions with like-minded peers. Our curriculum will go beyond textbook science learning to allow students to see and experience science in the real world. For Fall 2022, we will offer the following courses:
Climate Impact: Finding (Internal) Justice in Preparedness and Recovery
join in Joshua DeVincenzo Columbia Climate School’s National Disaster Prevention Center Workshop through a climate justice lens. This solutions-oriented workshop will investigate gaps and opportunities in global disaster recovery to critically examine rising inequalities. By focusing on translating research into practice, learners will explore strategies for disaster risk reduction, mitigation and adaptation, social vulnerability, structural barriers to equitable recovery, policy analysis, a global framework for preparedness, and the impact of climate on local communities. The workshop will be held from October 29th to December 17th from 10:00pm to 12:00pm EST, with some exceptions.
