For those of us in the creative field, creative burnout is more than just inconvenience. In some cases, it may actually be harmful to our work.

If you are a freelancer or entrepreneur, you may be responsible for ensuring your income. If you feel that your creativity is stifled or bankrupt, this lifestyle may be particularly difficult.

So, what can be done? Let’s take a look at what is creative burnout and learn from some of our internal creative teams their strategies to prevent this burnout.

What is creative burnout?

Creative burnout can mean different things to different people. Eventually, creative burnout occurs when people in the creative field begin to feel that their projects are overworked and not stimulated.

Phil McKinney Define it like this: “Creative burnout is usually related to the feeling of doing the same thing over and over again or acting in your own way.”

No matter what your personal definition is, you know the stress and isolation of exhaustion. In this article, we will discuss how to recover from burnout, and we will focus on the process of professionals from the same boat.

How to recover from creative burnout

  • Change your environment
  • Rest awhile
  • Pay attention to your health (physical and mental)

Change your environment

Changing your environment does not seem to be particularly profound, but research shows that your environment will strongly affect your creative process and your ability to concentrate.

Actually, Sound, color, temperature, lighting and the space around you They are all factors that affect your creativity and cognitive abilities.

If you want to increase your creativity, please consider some moderate background noise: 70-80 dB to be precise. Enjoy an orderly, dimly lit space, allowing you to relax subconsciously. And, use blue whenever possible! Research shows that taking these steps actually increases the creative process.

Rest awhile

Taking a break from heavy work can be counterproductive, but whether you take a break at your desk or take a vacation, a break can be healthy.

Interrupt from the computer

Never leaving your computer may make you feel more efficient. In fact, you may actually be suffering the consequences of overwork. Without interruption, Your productivity and mental health are affected.

Therefore, please consider ways to escape. Drinking coffee and dating with colleagues, occasionally eating a sumptuous lunch, and leaving the desk to eat are all healthy ways to get away from the noise and recharge.

Working Holiday

Maybe you need more than just a short break. If this is the case, please consider taking a vacation.

If the rest seems to be counterproductive, the vacation may seem ridiculous. But in fact, research shows People who don’t take vacations are more prone to depression, heart attacks, and even lower work efficiency. So, take a vacation. For your productivity and health.

Pay attention to your health

Creative burnout may also be related to general health problems. This is why it is important to take a step back and consider your physical and mental health.

Healthy body

We all know that exercise and a good diet are essential. However, the busier you are, the more unlikely they seem.Nevertheless, even busy professionals should make time for health because Statistically, healthier employees are more productive.

In order to pay more attention to your health in a tight schedule, please try to replace old habits with new ones.

For example, instead of going out with people who are off work, you can try to take a yoga class with them. Alternatives can also be applied to food. Use smoothies instead of processed breakfasts, or try replacing late afternoon snacks with fruits and vegetables.

Mental Health

You most likely Apply psychology to your own work, So why not incorporate it into your personal life?

If you feel depressed or anxious, please take some time for self-care. Meditation may help to some extent, but professional help is also a good long-term plan for treating mental health. The therapist can provide objective and educated opinions on your work environment and personal life.

Professionals tell us about their creative burnout strategy

Once you take the time to refresh and recover, consider incorporating other people’s methods into your process. We asked various professionals about their skills in treating overwork fatigue. They said this:

For me, this is really about changing habits or routines. This means moving to different rooms or work areas throughout the day instead of planting in the same place.

I also changed the channel and mixed my work soundtrack. Different rhythms, styles or genres can change your mood and re-inspire.

And I often change projects. When I am buried under a project for several hours, it is easy to feel exhausted. Unless the deadline specifies otherwise, I sometimes need to close certain items and then completely forget them within a few hours or days. After you have been away from something for a while, it is amazing how you can come back with a new vision and new ideas.

—— Randy Kershner, Selligent/CM Group Advanced Copywriter

Don’t put pressure on yourself and let yourself enjoy the “creative moment” during working hours. Usually, when I least expect or have left the screen, my “aha” moment will appear. This leads to my next point:

Stay away from your screen! Take a walk, change the scenery-it’s like letting your brain take a nap. A 15-20 minute meditation is perfect for resetting and refocusing.

Oh, be sure to set boundaries. This is different for different people. Some people like to come in and finalize a day for 8/9 hours in a row. Others like to break up the day with various activities and then finish things later in the evening or in the quiet of the morning. Find the best time for you and stick to it.

—— Becky Chastain, Senior Art Director of CM Group

For me, burnout is almost always related to my lack of personal contact with colleagues.Someone once shared with me an insightful tidbit that I will never forget; “If you really want to be happy in your workspace, you will set a goal to work with you people work together task. ”

I cherish the time I can have a quick (virtual) coffee with my teammates because it allows me to breathe, connect and become a human being. I suggest that those who are experiencing job burnout simply toss some time on the calendar to greet new colleagues or catch up with old colleagues.

This will make a big difference-I promise.
