Winter is a beautiful season. Shimmering white snow, glistening icicles on tree branches, and frost covering mountains and valleys. Winter feels magical, refreshing and cozy. Winter naturally feels like a time to hunker down, rest and become more introspective. Snow also creates opportunities for outdoor activities and enjoying the cold-weather outdoors, such as snowshoeing, skiing, snowboarding, cross-country skiing, fat biking, and more.

Winter can also feel like a dark time for many people. Less sunlight during the day can lead to seasonal depression and an overall feeling of dread. Getting out and exploring or staying home and doing something creative or fun can help overcome these feelings of doom and gloom. Whether you’d rather enjoy cozy indoors during the winter, or you’d rather venture out in the cold, there are many ways to enjoy winter. I find that I do a lot of reading in the winter because there are more opportunities for quiet and squatting. There’s nothing like spending time with your girlfriends to get you out of the winter slump. No need for anything fancy, just invite a few girlfriends over for a light appetizer and drink. You’ll have a great time connecting with friends and having a good laugh. Those dark days always seem brighter with the company of friends.

watch movies and shows

I’m definitely indulging in more TV shows during the winter too. If you’ve got a bunch of shows and movies to catch up on, winter is the perfect time to settle down and binge. Whether it’s a snowy Sunday, or when it starts to get dark around 4:30pm, watching some good movies and shows is always a fun way to wind down in winter.

Winter is a season of introspection, and journaling or writing is the perfect way to embrace that. You can document your ideas, or try writing in different genres to explore new writing styles. There are so many fun ways to document or write and bring out all these beautiful ideas from within.

I’m not very artistic myself, but I love the idea of ​​sitting in front of a blank easel and creating something beautiful. Maybe you’re already an artist but have fallen out of your craft and want to get back into it. Or it may have been something you’ve always wanted to explore. I always feel that conversations with my husband in the dining room are deeper and richer when we are away from all the stress and responsibilities we feel at home. As adults, we often forget to simply play in the snow! My appreciation for this has grown over the past year since I was 19 months old.
