If you enjoy spending time with plants and gardens, you might be interested in these 11 ways to make money gardening. While some of these ideas can help boost your income, some can definitely be used in your career.
So without further ado, let’s jump into some possibilities for making money from your love of gardening.
#1.care about landscaping
While you may prefer growing food to growing hedges and grass, if you work in landscaping, you do spend a lot of time outdoors growing things.
A year ago, I was lucky enough to be employed at a resort to plant and maintain landscaping. To my great satisfaction, they wanted to add some food to their plantings, so I started with mulberries, coconuts, star fruit, coffee and June plums, along with ferns, ornamental grasses and ground covers.
There has been a lot of landscaping done. I recommend working for yourself after working for a successful gardener for a while. You’ll gain skills this way, not to mention better muscles.

If you’re really smart, you might find some work installing garden beds. Some grow gardens for others and maintain them, thus sharing the produce. Smarter people will grow gardens in the yards of a bunch of different people and sell what they grow.

#3.grow herbs
Someone recently asked me if I could grow a bunch of lemongrass for them because they just can’t get enough. This is an easy-to-grow herb with medicinal and culinary uses. You can do the same with any number of herbs.
Given how many people are interested in essential oils, you might be growing lavender, oregano, or rosemary, or all of the above.
Organic herbs are a high-value crop. I have a friend who specializes in rare Chinese herbs – it can be done.
#4.Start a Seed Company
While I have no experience with this, I’m friends with Steve Solomon, who started Territory Seeds. I also worked with Jere Gettle, who started Baker Creek Heirloom Seeds as a young man. There is a huge market for seeds, especially heirloom and local varieties.
#5. Start U-pick
I’m friends with three different people who started U-pick operations and they’ve all been successful. You’ll need some land and a good crop — or more than one crop — but you can really make a great home abode for people who want to pick their own ripe grapes, peaches, strawberries, blueberries, squash, or whatever.
#6.Homemade salsa/jam
I love making hot sauce. Some people tell me it’s the best they’ve ever had. Do you like making salsa? Or jams, jellies or preserves? Maybe it’s time to get serious and start producing, then set up shop at your local farmers market.
#7.Grow food forests and sell produce
I have planted multiple food forests and have done well. We ended up eating most of the produce ourselves since I don’t grow more than half an acre and I have a lot of kids.

However, we do a great job selling tour tickets and producing a large number of plants and cuttings that can be sold at my nursery. More on that later.
#8.start a farm
Research community supported agriculture. Maybe hook up with some resorts or restaurants and offer them high-priced organic produce. If you’re good enough at farming, you can even turn a profit from a small farm.have a look Jean-Martin Fortier!
#9.sell flowers to the arranger
I met a guy who grows a huge variety of flowers and orchids and sells them to arrangers. Special events, funerals and weddings always call for exquisite flowers.
If you’d rather work directly with the public, you might consider setting up a bouquet CSA, in which flowers you’ve grown and arranged are offered to CSA members weekly, for a fixed number of weeks per year.

#11. Writing and YouTube
Writing is my main livelihood, though I have to keep doing it so I don’t fall behind in income. It helps to be able to write thousands of postable words a day. Just today, I have written more than 6,000 words.

You will find something. That’s not what a lawyer or a doctor earns, but it’s hard to make a living doing something you love.
