There is no shortage of projects in this house and we are already working on our next project. Just like we did in the RI house, we are converting a garage into a bedroom and bathroom. This new space will be our bed/bath, and we will turn our existing bedroom/bath into a guest room (which could eventually be Marin’s room when he grows up).In case you missed it, I shared dining space In addition to our most recent build, I will be sharing the entire space (including the living room) soon!
One of the questions I get asked a lot is “what would you do without a garage?” We have a shed in the back yard for our lawn mower and snow blower.we also recently Renovate a basement and turn an unfinished space into a gear storage room. We might build another shed on the property to store trash cans and wood, but we can live without it for now.
Craig has started work on the garage and is currently building the framing for the subfloor. He installed new windows and replaced the exterior siding. Here are more of our plans and inspiration for bedroom and bathroom additions.
Vermont bedroom and bathroom addition design plans and inspiration
As you can see from the image below, we have approximately 330 square feet of workspace. It was smaller than the one we had in Rhode Island, but definitely enough for a bedroom and a bathroom. At the bottom of the drawing on the other side of the wall behind the closet, we are thinking of building a lean-to shed. I think we’ve given up on that idea since we decided to add a door to the exterior of that wall. As I write this, we’ve revised plans, but not much has changed in terms of design or layout.
We have four windows in total. Two are in the bathroom (one in the shower and one next to the vanity). Then we have two in the bedroom. This side of the house gets the most sunlight throughout the day, so two windows will suffice. The wall opposite the bed and the wall in the shower are interior walls so we couldn’t put windows there.we are going to put IKEA Pax Wardrobe On the outside wall on the other side of the bed.
bathroom design
The bathroom space is fairly small but we had plenty of room for a good sized shower, double vanity and toilet. We might also add some built in storage next to the shower.
vanity
I know we want to use natural wood for the vanity, but we haven’t decided on light or dark wood.i do like something But I’m also intrigued by the idea I think I may need more storage, but it’s a good idea.

I’ve always been leaning towards green tiles in the shower, and something in sage or sea foam green is something we really like. I think a pop of color in the shower would be really pretty. this fairy color really good i like this (aloe vera green is my favorite).
floor
We haven’t decided on flooring yet, but we’re definitely going to have tile. I want to do heated floors in the bathroom, so I figured we’d do some electric under the tiles.We might go for wood look tiles in the bathroom but I like the idea of dark blue and sage green too Love this bathroom. I absolutely Love these fern tiles from Clé tile. It might be cool to incorporate some elements into the design. Here’s another favorite of ours I think sage green would look great.

we are going to use Small base plate heating In the bathroom under the window. In the bedroom, we also do a trot under the window and a small crack in the wall.
bedroom design
In the bedroom we have two windows. They are spaced far enough apart for a queen bed, so we’re talking about using that instead of a king bed. If anyone has gone from king to queen please let me know!
wall
We haven’t decided on the walls yet, but I’m debating whether to use venetian plaster like we did in the living room, or shiplap. I also like the idea of a painted shiplap.
floor
in the bedroom we’re going to continue Using Sawyer Mason Flooring match kitchen and living room. Craig is building the subfloor to match the kitchen floor level so it is continuous.
wardrobe / closet
we are using IKEA Pax Wardrobe We plan to use them again in the bedroom. We’ll probably do a few on the exterior walls and a few extra on the interior walls. I want to maximize storage space so I can keep my entire closet in one place without having to take my winter clothes to the basement.
This week we are trying to get a plumber to do an initial inspection and an electrician to do the wiring. I’ll share more updates anytime!
