- ketchup – Gives BBQ sauce a thick, rich texture and natural sweetness. If you don’t have any, you can substitute with triple the amount of tomato paste and simmer longer to thicken.
- apple cider vinegar – Added Don. If you don’t have one, you can substitute white vinegar or lemon juice for a similar acid.
- Besti Powdered Monk Fruit Allulose Blend – I use and recommend this exclusively because it dissolves completely unlike others sugar substitute This can make your keto BBQ sauce recipe gritty or crystallize when stored.If you want to use something else, make sure it’s powdered and use mine Sweetener Conversion Table to get the correct amount.
- Worcestershire sauce – Adds umami and a slight sweetness. i like this one,gluten free. Technically, it has trace amounts of sugar, but the entire recipe uses 2 tablespoons of Worcestershire sauce, which is only 1/20 of a tablespoon (like a drop) per serving. You can omit it or substitute a little blackstrap molasses with a little water if you like.

How to Make Sugar-Free BBQ Sauce

Tip: The amount of water will vary.
Start with 1 cup of water and add more water at a time until it reaches a consistency slightly thinner than BBQ sauce. I ended up using about 1 1/2 cups of water, but it depends on how thick your tomato sauce is.
- Cook less. Bring to a gentle boil over medium-high heat, then reduce to medium-low heat. Simmer, stirring frequently, until thickened to your liking.
- Adjust sweetness and heat. Taste and add more Besti or chilli if desired.
