As if a classic mojito wasn’t tasty enough, I added extra mint with a naturally sweetened honey simple syrup…and it was delicious! seriously. This is the best mojito recipe ever.

Enjoy this cocktail as a pick-me-up with dinner, or serve it to a crowd at your next party. This is a drink that everyone will love.

What is a Mojito?

A mojito is a Cuban rum cocktail made with lime juice, mint, sugar, white rum, and club soda.

Traditionally, mojitos are sweetened with granulated sugar. The sugar is mixed with the mint, breaking it down so it doesn’t taste grainy and helping to release the mint’s natural oils. Here, we skip the refined sugar and instead make a quick Honey Mint Simple Syrup. It adds just the right amount of sweetness to make it extra minty!

Is mojito mint the same as spearmint?

Kind of! Mojito mint is a variation of spearmint. The difference is subtle, but Mojito Mint is a little sweeter than classic spearmint.

Either would work for this recipe!

mojito ingredients

  • Mint: Fresh spearmint leaves are available at most grocery stores.
  • Lime Juice: Use freshly squeezed lime juice for best flavor. Otherwise, bottled ones are fine too.
  • Mint Syrup: You can make a homemade honey candy mint syrup for this recipe.
  • White rum: Just use your favorite variety.
  • soda water: Soda water is a classic, but you can really use any carbonated water you like. Try the lime soda for extra lime zest!
  • Side dishes: I like to garnish each glass with a lime wedge and an extra mint leaf or two.

How to Make a Mojito

After prepping the simple syrup, this homemade mojito is on the table in just 5 minutes!

  1. Confused Mint: Put a few mint leaves in two glasses. Add the simple syrup and beat everything well with a whisk or the bottom of a wooden spoon.
  2. combine: Fill each glass 2/3 full with ice, then pour in the lime juice, rum, and club soda.
  3. To decorate and serve: Garnish each glass with extra lime and/or mint, and sip!

How to Make Peppermint Syrup

check it out postal For all the instructions and recipes, but here’s a quick recap:

  1. Make simple syrup by mixing 1 part water and 1 part sweetener. In this case, I use honey. Bring the mixture to a boil and let the honey dissolve.
  2. Crush or rough up the clean mint leaves to help release the oils, then place the mint in a heatproof bowl. Pour the simple syrup over the mint and let it sit for 10 minutes to allow the mint flavor to infuse the syrup.
  3. Strain out the mint leaves and press down gently to release more flavor and oil.

What wine is best for Mojitos?

The traditional alcohol used in mojitos is white rum, also known as silver rum or rum blanco. It has a subtle tropical flavor that pairs perfectly with other ingredients in a mojito!

If you don’t have rum around, vodka will work too, though then it wouldn’t be a traditional mojito.

Tips and Precautions

  • Stir in the mint. You don’t need to grind it up, but lightly pressing it a few times does help release the oil and flavor.
  • Use simple syrup for sweetening. Adding honey directly to drinks won’t work because honey doesn’t mix well with cold drinks.
  • Make the simple syrup ahead of time. You want it to have enough time to cool so it doesn’t heat up your cocktail. The good news is that you can make it a few days ahead and store it in the refrigerator.
  • Serve immediately. Cocktails should be enjoyed immediately after mixing with ice. Otherwise, the ice will melt and dilute the drink.
  • Serve the crowd? Simply measure out and combine all ingredients in a pitcher, minus the soda and ice. When you’re ready to serve, pour ice into serving glasses and top with club soda.

service suggestion

This cocktail is perfect at a party with your favorite appetizer or with a casual dinner at home. Here are some pairing ideas – meals and appetizers!

how to store

I do not recommend storing this drink. Once fully assembled, it’s best served right away.

However, you can achieve success by preparing some ahead of time.

  1. this simple syrup Can be prepared, chilled, and stored in the refrigerator for several weeks in an airtight container or jar.
  2. cocktail Can be mixed together, minus the club soda and ice, a few hours in advance, then poured over ice and topped with soda when you’re ready to serve.
