
Teaching Assistants Needed for Fall NYC Watershed Courses
this Sustainability Undergraduate Program Applications are being accepted to support the fall course SDEV 4550, “New York City Watershed: From Community Displacement to Cooperation and Climate Adaptation.”
Applicants must be full-time Columbia University graduate students enrolled in a degree-granting program. Before the two-day course, students should work an average of 10-20 hours per week (although this may vary throughout the term), 10 hours per day on 7-8 October for a total of 20 hours during 16-30 October .

SDEV 4550 New York City Watershed: From Community Displacement to Cooperation and Climate Adaptation

A graduate student is required to support the preparation and delivery of the two-day field course. Candidates will work closely with Professor DeFries to successfully implement the October 7-8, 2023 class.
Successful candidates will have great attention to detail, be able to work with minimal supervision, and have experience supporting classes. Students who have previously taken the course will be given preference.
Expected tasks
Under the supervision of the professor, the candidate will help prepare the logistics of the course and assist in its implementation. Tasks will include but not limited to:
- distribute materials to students
- Answer students’ questions
- Serve as a secondary reader/grader for assigned final papers
- Additional assignments required to support course preparation and implementation
Require:
Must be a full-time graduate student with:
- Excellent organizational, communication and leadership skills;
- Great attention to detail;
- Must be able to manage tasks and time with minimal supervision;
- Demonstrated interest in and knowledge of the watershed community or the Catskill Mountains is preferred, but not required.
