- berry- Frozen berry mixture is best so the consistency is thick and icy.
- ice cubes – Crush it slightly before using to prevent chunks from forming in your glass.
- Tequila – Use your favorite brand.
- orange juice – I prefer fresh squeezed orange juice to store bought orange juice.
- Grand Marnier – Feel free to use your favorite orange wine.
- Lime – You need the juice of the margarita and the zest of the glass. You can also use lemon.
- agave nectar – Raw honey and maple syrup can be substituted.
- sugar – For eyeglass frames, this is optional.
What tequila is best for a margarita?
Silver (or white) tequila is best for margaritas because it has a very clean, tangy flavor with a silky smooth finish. This makes the berries in the recipe the star of the show. While aged tequilas can also be used, they add different kinds of smoky, sweet, and spice notes to the mix.

Tips for success
Adding a sweet edge of miguelito and a bit of spicy chipotle to the mix takes any frozen margarita to the next level.
- Swap rims. If you don't like a sugary edge, you can use Miguelito (Mexican sweet paprika), Tajín or salt instead.
- Make them fruitier. Swap half the berries for chopped mango, peach or pineapple for a more natural sweetness.
- Add heat. Mix 1-2 tablespoons Chamoy sauce or 1/4 teaspoon chili powder into margarita mixture and heat through.
- Make mocktails. Skip the tequila and Grand Marnier and make a family-friendly, slushy mocktail.
- Add garnishes. Sliced limes, lemons, strawberries, and oranges make great fruity garnishes for your cocktails.
- Cool glasses. Keep your margaritas chilled longer by placing your cocktail glass in the refrigerator for 15-20 minutes before serving your drink.

Can you make frozen margaritas ahead of time?
You can make the frozen margaritas up to 2 hours in advance, then place the mixture in a pitcher and refrigerate. If you want to make them ahead of time, mix all the ingredients as normal except for the ice. Mix it before enjoying your super chilled drink.
