Bellevue’s police chief announced earlier this month that he would leave the department and accept the post of police chief in Akron, Ohio. Steve Mylett has been a senior police officer in Bellevue since 2015. He will start his new role on August 9.
Bellevue City Councilor Janice Zahn told Northwest Asia Weekly, “I’m excited for this chief, and his new job will bring him closer to his family. Just like me and Akron City Councilor Russel Neal (we are in the country together As shared by the Cities Alliance’s Racial Equality and Leadership Committee, I believe that Director Mylett will lead carefully while responding to the severe challenges of policing in the 21st century and ensuring public safety is for all.”
The city will look for alternatives across the country.
