A Graduate Program Coordinator is required for the course “Public Lands in the American West”
The Center for Undergraduate Global Engagement is looking for a Graduate Program Coordinator to assist in managing the blended program, public lands in the American West. The program runs from May 31-June 23, including a week in Colorado (June 11-18).
The program coordinator works with the program director to manage all aspects of the hybrid program, which includes a three-week virtual class and on-site responsibilities during a trip to Colorado. The program coordinator’s responsibilities include overseeing student arrivals, orientation activities, supporting student health, coordinating field trip logistics, managing student housing issues, enforcing Columbia University’s conduct policies, and serving as the primary point of contact for student counseling.
qualified:
- Candidates must be current Columbia graduate students enrolled full-time in the Spring 2022 semester
- Must be authorized to work in the U.S. and complete the I-9 work eligibility process
- Colombia COVID-19 vaccination policy must be followed
Work requirements:
- Must be available for the entire program period May 31-June 23 and be able to travel to Colorado between May 31-June 23 The week of June 12-19, 2022, and the remaining weeks to support classes virtually
- Spring semester availability to assist with all elements of planning
- First choice for social science, environmental policy and sustainability backgrounds
- Preferred Experience (Live, Work or Travel) in the Western United States
- Basic physical fitness, especially the ability to hike in high altitude environments
- Interest in undergraduate well-being and academic success
Virtual Course Components (May 31-June 23, except for one week on site)
- Serving as a teaching assistant in virtual courses including: building and maintaining the Courseworks website, Attend all class meetings, help professors grade assignments, and be on hand to help students as required
- Other duties assigned
Colorado Field Trip (June 11-18)
Administration:
- Support the planning, management and delivery of targeted programmes integrated with planning dPrincipal for Spring Semester
- Attend pre-departure meeting (plans to be determined)
- Coordinate and assist student arrivals. Communicate with the Center for Undergraduate Global Engagement and field staff within 24 hours, All students have arrived safely
- Organize and assist with COVID-19 program-wide field trips, cultural events, and group dinners Guidelines. Participate in all scheduled program activities.
- Fully understand the details of the project itinerary and communicate with Schedule updates from other faculty, students and field staff and partners
- Understand and clearly communicate to students the academic and disciplinary rules outlined in the Student Engagement Agreement
- Understand and clearly communicate the outlined policies and protocols to students in the program’s emergency protocols, COVID protocols, and community health compacts
- Gather local contact information for students and faculty and establish a regular communication plan use and in an emergency
- Assist in developing a sense of community among student participants
housing:
- Liaise with a rental agent and resolve any housing issues with the help of the program dwhen they appear
- Living with students in primary school dormitories and any program sponsored short-term dormitories
student:
- Serve as the primary point of contact for students who may have questions or need assistance
- Assisting students in situations involving communication with legal authorities
- In an emergency, students have 24/7 access via email and mobile
- Support student health and accompany students to seek medical help as needed
- Meet regularly with program directors to discuss/resolve student issues as needed
remuneration:
- Summer stipend 2022: $5,500
- Round-trip airfare (or equivalent) from New York to the project location
- Accommodation and meal plans during field trips
- Reimbursable expenses (with receipt), including airport transfers
