On Thursday night, China’s major video streaming sites censored the search results of Zhao Wei, a very popular actress, also known as Zhao Wei.
Her name was suddenly deleted from the end of the main TV series, and a forum dedicated to the actress on the social media platform Weibo was also mysteriously closed. The label “Zhao Wei Super Topic Closed” received 850 million views.
The official did not give a reason.
But earlier this year, Zhao and her husband were banned from trading on the Shanghai Stock Exchange because the authorities ruled that the 2016 takeover offer failed to “disrupt the market order”.
Chinese Internet regulators issued new regulations on Friday to ban celebrity rankings and strengthen control of “chaotic” celebrity fan clubs and management agencies.
Video streaming site iQiyi said on Thursday that it had stopped all idol talent shows, and a Chinese boy band composed of elementary school students disbanded earlier this week because of public backlash due to the age of the performers.
