On Friday, dozens of Afghan women risked their lives in a rare protest against the Taliban’s tightening of control over Afghanistan.
A small group of women, called the Women’s Political Participation Network, marched near the Presidential Palace in Kabul, demanding education, the right to return to work, and a role in national governance. As they walked on the streets of Kabul, videos shared on social media showed them chanting “Don’t be afraid” and “We are together.”
Many people also held signs, one saying “No government will be stable without the support of women”, and the other saying “Freedom is our motto. This makes us proud.”
