In a standoff in Texas, one policeman was killed and four others were injured, which ended after the SWAT team deployed poison gas and robots to the suspect’s home.
According to the Associated Press, the 22-year-old male suspect was identified as Omar Soto-Chavila and was detained by the police at around 11.30pm, more than 10 hours after the authorities started the confrontation.
Sheriff Josh Bartlett of the Lubbock County Sheriff’s Office was shot dead during the confrontation.
The other three injured police officers were treated for minor injuries. According to the Associated Press, Levelland Sheriff Sean Wilson underwent surgery for a gunshot wound, but is currently in stable condition.
Loveland Police Chief Albert Garcia told reporters at the scene that the standoff began on Thursday, when a local resident reported a man walking around with a big gun.
Officials from the Lubbock County Sheriff’s Office told reporters that after the SWAT team deployed gas and a robot to his home, the suspect surrendered. More detailed information about the robot has not been released yet.
