Meta released Llama 3 language models (LLM) as the basis of Meta AI. Additionally, Meta is making Llama 3 open source for other third-party developers to use, modify, and distribute for research and commercial purposes without any licensing fees or restrictions. More on that later.
Meta AI serves as Messenger, Instagram, Facebook, and my AI engine go Sunglasses created in collaboration with Ray-Ban.
Mark Zuckerberg announced the news Number of execution threads.
“We are upgrading Meta AI with the new, state-of-the-art Llama 3 artificial intelligence model, which has been open sourced,” said Zuckerberg. “With this new model, we believe Meta AI is now the smartest AI model you can freely use. Artificial Intelligence Assistant.”
Meta has also launched a free website designed to compete with (looks like) OpenAI’s ChatGPT, available at meta-artificial intelligence. Please note that the service is currently free but requires you to log in with a Facebook account. You can bypass this now, but if you log in you will contribute to training for LLAMA 4 and above based on your profile and activity. This is nothing new for Facebook or any social media company, because you and I, as users, have always been the product, training ground, and by-product of social algorithms.
Like ChatGPT, you can respond via text prompts or “imagine” images that Meta.AI creates for you. The cool thing about the image visualization (creation) process is that it provides instant preview based on your prompts. Compare this to ChatGPT or Google Gemini, where you have to wait for the image to be generated before you can fine-tune the prompts. Additionally, users can animate images to create short MP4 videos. Interestingly, everything comes with a watermark. Likewise, Meta.AI also generates replay videos of your creative process.
All in all, the performance and capability race between Claude, ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity, etc. benefits our users because genAI is like the Wild West right now. We can test the best-performing products at little or no cost until the dust settles.

What sets the Llama 3 apart is its performance claims. Llama 3 introduces new models with 8 billion and 70 billion parameters, showing significant improvements in inference and code generation capabilities. This meets industry benchmarks for advanced performance.
The number of parameters in a large language model like Llama 3 is a measure of model size and complexity. More parameters generally allow the model to capture more complex patterns and relationships in the training data, thereby improving performance on a variety of tasks.
Unlike many other well-known Llama proprietary Llama 3 such as GPT-4 and Google's Gemini, Llama 3 is free for research and commercial purposes. This open source accessibility fosters innovation and collaboration within the AI community.
Meta is developing a multi-modal version of Llama 3 that can handle various modes such as images, handwritten text, video and audio clips, thereby expanding its potential applications.For example, with Meta Ray-Ban glasses, users can activate the camera and say “Hey Meta” to identify objects, translate signage and text (even between different languages), and create text
Multilingual training is integrated into the Llama 3 version, allowing it to handle multiple languages effectively.
Meta is also reportedly training a 400 billion parameter version of Llama 3, demonstrating its scalability to handle larger and more complex models.
Llama 3's “Instruct” versions (8B-Instruct and 70B-Instruct) have been fine-tuned to better follow human instructions, making them more suitable for conversational AI applications.
As with any model, accuracy and bias are always an issue. This is true for all AI chatbots. sometimes, Inaccurate results But it could have a significant impact.
Despite this, Zuckerberg expects Meta AI to become “the most commonly used and best artificial intelligence assistant in the world.” With integrations with some of the most used social media and messaging platforms in the world, his install base is definitely there.
