Summer 2024, OpenAI previews prototype artificial intelligence searchwhich aims to provide fast, timely answers from “clear and relevant sources.” It was promoted as a new way to search.
On Halloween 2024, OpenAI officially debuts ChatGPT search, Officially challenging both traditional search engines and Perplexity AI.
The key to ChatGPT search is that it combines natural language, conversational interfaces with real-time information curated by generative artificial intelligence, and provides links to relevant web resources in the results.
ChatGPT search provides users with a more natural way to interact with information. What's important here is that the user (I don't like this term) can ask follow-up questions and the AI will consider the full context of the chat to provide a better answer.
SearchGPT automatically determines when to search the web based on user queries, but users can also choose to trigger searches manually by clicking the little blue search button. It's best-in-class historical intelligence search combined with real-time web search capabilities.
Instead of providing a list of links, I looked on Google and ChatGPT searches for aggregate information to directly answer the query, providing links to sources and algorithm results. This allows users to get concise, relevant answers without having to sift through multiple search results to apply manual filters to get the most relevant results. I can't say enough.
As users, we have to sift through the algorithm results ourselves to find the right results. This isn’t always easy or effective, which means we’ll move to more trustworthy, peer-driven results on sites like Instagram, TikTok, and Youtube

conversational interface
ChatGPT search combines the search function with a conversational interface to provide a more intuitive way to interact with information. Users can ask follow-up questions and ChatGPT will consider the full context of the chat to provide better answers.
Web search integration
ChatGPT can now search the web to provide the latest information on a variety of topics. This enables users to access current information from weather forecasts to stock prices, news and more.
Source attribution
ChatGPT searches provide links to the sources of the answers they give, allowing users to verify information and explore topics more deeply. The Source button below your response opens a sidebar with references for further interaction.
Partnerships with publishers
OpenAI partners with various news organizations and publishers to ensure reliable sources of information. These partnerships include agreements with the Associated Press, Axel Springer, the Financial Times, Reuters and several other publishers.

The biggest frustration with search or any social platform these days is that results and feeds are the product of the latest algorithms on any given platform. Or, turn out to be the product of the best search engine marketers in the game.
Especially at Google, entire industries and sub-industries exist for elevating results to page one, or even better, to page zero (summaries, now artificially intelligent, sit at the top of the results page). But that doesn't mean, at least on Google searches, the results are the most accurate. Instead, the results are often manufactured and inconsistent with what the user expected. even
One of the biggest unforeseen threats to traditional search is the conversational aspect of generating AI prompts. Over the years, users have entered more conversational queries into the search box, and the results have been algorithmically optimized (or gamed) to align with the search query. We usually call this keyword anthropology.
But unlike Google's scrolling list of links, ChatGPT provides comprehensive, direct answers to queries, potentially simplifying the search process. The goal is to combine web searches with ChatGPT's language understanding to provide more contextual results.
I have always believed that background is king. Relevant, intuitive, meaningful content inspired by context.
You may or may not know this, but I'm a huge fan and customer Puzzled. I use Perplexity as a research and in-depth search engine. I appreciate the sources and citations that allow me to further my understanding of any given topic by reading and studying in my own direction.
SearchGPT seems to be following this path and I look forward to comparing the results. I'm also a paying customer of ChatGPT, so this is all a plus for me! 😁
That being said, OpenAI is challenging Google and Confusion about SearchGPT.
