AInsights: What your C-suite insights mean for the latest in generative artificial intelligence…
I'm not going to lie, when I first heard about Google Notebook (officially named Google Notebook) NotebookLMwhich is the new artificial intelligence pilot program, I think it will be limited to students and educators. I've since changed my mind. you can say me changed my mentality.
So what is NotebookLM? Is it just another tool like ChatGPT, Google Gemini, Meta.ai or Claude?
Yes and no.
NotebookLM is powered by Google's Gemini Pro language model. But it doesn't just focus on pre-existing language models themselves. This is a dedicated workspace trained on specific materials uploaded by users to build smart assistants. A bit like OpenAI GPTbut designed specifically as a research and note-taking assistant.
In other words, Google's NotebookLM organizes, analyzes and synthesizes the source-specific information it provides. It combines the power of large language models with user-contributed content to create personalized research assistants. It allows users to upload and interact with multiple sources of information, creating a customized knowledge base for each project or “notebook.”
Users can upload up to 50 sources per notebook, including Google Docs, Google Slides, PDFs, website URLs, and text files. Each source can be up to 500,000 words in length, providing extensive research material.
NotebookLM builds overviews, summaries, key topics, and suggested questions based on uploaded documents. It can also analyze charts, images, and graphs from sources.
Users can ask questions about their sources, and NotebookLM provides answers via inline citations, linking directly to relevant parts of the original document (a bit of a nod to Perplexity.ai).
NotebookLM allows users to create, store and organize notes. It can convert selected notes into an outline, table of contents, study guide or summary.
Notebooks can be shared with team members, enabling collaborative research and analysis.
Now there's some crazy stuff…
NotebookLM can even generate podcast-style discussions about the content, providing audio summaries of the information. It simulates a conversation between two hosts, and if you don't notice the nuances, it's believable… and funny!
Artificial Intelligence Insights
This newsletter aims to understand the impact of artificial intelligence trends on busy C-suite executives. This one is a little different in that it acts as a personal research assistant and can connect the dots between the actual research organization and the larger work being done by the executives who benefit from their work. NotebookLM does not replace these groups by any stretch of the imagination. But it does help motivate and inspire senior executives to work better with others on their teams and in the organization.
NotebookLM acts as a virtual research assistant, helping senior executives and their teams quickly integrate information from multiple sources. This can significantly reduce the time spent on research and analysis.
Notebooks can be shared with team members, enabling collaborative research and analysis.
But let's look at some specific applications where NotebookLM can be useful.
Strategic planning: Managers can use NotebookLM to integrate market research, competitor analysis and internal reports to provide information for strategic decisions.
Project management: Teams can create notebooks for specific projects, keeping all relevant documents, notes and discussions in one place.
Meeting preparation: NotebookLM helps managers quickly summarize key points from multiple documents, ensuring they are fully prepared for important meetings.
Trend analysis: Managers can use NotebookLM to identify emerging trends and patterns in their industry by uploading various industry reports and news articles.
Audio summary: The new audio summary feature can generate podcast-style discussions about the contents of your notebook to an unreal degree. Seriously.
I fed it part thinking change Manuscript to see what it can do. Wow. Just wow. I made it loop five times and it was impressive and fun each time. I have a hard time choosing which one to keep.
Take 1

However, I can imagine that in any research project, in addition to briefings, emails, meetings, or reports, it would be possible to create interesting news content for stakeholders to consume.
As Mindshift’s Google Audio podcast summary surmises, “Every step outside of your comfort zone is a step toward growth.”
indeed. Imagine the possibilities.
